Nbc to use AI voice of Jim Fagan for the winter olympics . Would you want to replace tom leach with a AI version of Cawood Ledford and Ralph Hacker or

I would love to hear Cawood's voice again. If the best I can get is an AI version -- bring it on.
That'd be freakin amazing. I'd have to listen to the radio broadcast. I just don't know if AI can capture Cawood's aura. Sure the voice would sound the same but I question the cadence and delivery.

At the expense of rising stars in the industry, though. I get it for an iconic voice like Vader, but recreating Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, David Attenborough, and more for voiceover work in the future seems ridiculous. Life is beautiful because it isn't forever. People we love and have grown accustomed to come and go.

I'm strongly against AI as it's trending. It's an incredible and powerful tool, but way too many companies are utilizing it instead of people to save a buck. Hell, McAfee has an ad out now that was made with AI and the woman doing a twirl morphs like an uncanny amoeba person.

The corporations that own this country have absolutely loved turning every little thing into a commodity and selling it back to us as a crappier product. AI comes after our humanity.

Soapbox over.
This.

It's fine for big characters like

Replace Leach with AI Cawood? nope, I like Leach too much. Cawood was obviously one of the GOAT, but Leach is fun to listen to as well and been doing it long enough to create a legacy of his own. Now I would have replaced Ralph Hacker all day every day with AI Cawood.

I think AI streams of deceased commentators could be promising so long as they are optional to the live stream with a living commentator. It would be fun to hear a highlight reel of a current UK game with Cawood calling it so younger fans can experience it with players they know. Those of us who grew up listening to Cawood know how awesome it was.

Would rather not. We really need to be thinking long and hard on how we want to integrate AI into our lives. Which sounds like an obvious statement, yet it never seems to be addressed by our leaders.

Using AI to rapidly sift through medical history/data in a way that humans just simply can't do so we can properly diagnose cancer or perform treatment? Thats good.

Using AI to now start calling basketball games which we all know will inevitably lead to an entire line of work being eliminated in a decade? When there's absolutely no reason to not just use a real human for this? Thats bad.

AI needs to be used to make our lives better and do the things that humans simply can not.. but it shouldn't be used for cheap labor that makes billionaires even richer at the expense of the American people.
I read your response and , for fun, I typed "What is something that lineskicat14 would post on CatsIllustrated?" into chatgpt and it spit this out:

A user with the handle "lineskicat14" posting on CatsIllustrated, which is a Kentucky Wildcats fan forum (part of the Rivals network), would most likely be commenting on topics related to:
  • University of Kentucky (UK) basketball or football: Recruiting updates, game analysis, coaching decisions.
  • Player performance: Either hyping up a rising star or criticizing inconsistency.
  • Insider rumors or opinions: Claims about what’s happening behind the scenes with the team.
  • Game threads: Live reactions or pre/post-game takes.
  • Fan banter: Friendly (or not-so-friendly) debates with other users about UK athletics.
If “lineskicat14” is a long-time member, they might post things like:

“If Bradshaw doesn’t show up Saturday, I don’t see how we survive the lane against Tennessee.”
“Heard from a buddy close to the program that a big 5-star is leaning our way 👀”
“I’ll ride with Cal, but this rotation makes no sense right now.”

See, AI couldn't even mention the biggest one, which is "general shit-posting". Cant trust AI.

Someday, humanity will say "When you create a machine to do the work of a man, you take something away from the man."

I'd already say that, but what do I know ?

By that logic, you should throw away your cellphone and other trappings of modern life and go hunt and forage with your barehands.

Wait until you can join a fantasy league where every player is AI generated and you can play full seasons that look identical to a real broadcast.

Or play hypothetical games like 1996 UK vs 2015 UK.

AI is a newborn infant right now. Five years from now the world will have changed more drastically than any other five year period in human history. And each year it will accelerate even faster. Buckle up.

You're joking, right? Goose is good and I have no issue with him. But of the pair, Leach is better.
Not joking. Have never liked Leach. Don’t like his voice and he is a screamer. Everyone has preferences and I understand that. I just don’t prefer him.

Howard Cosell calling Monday Night Football again would be pretty fun.

Or John Madden.

Or Cosell and Madden together.
Yes. As novelties. You could also have the voice of Pol Pot or Charlemagne do it, too.

I am skeptical that there will be an on-going market for this.

No, I don’t think so. Maybe a minority opinion but, let the dead rest.

What’s next- a new studio album from Cobain or Lennon? A new Bond movie with Sean Connery?

Have to be very careful here.

I have heard songs and short conversations that sound like the real person.
Somebody tried to do an entire new set for George Carlin and it was atrocious. It sounded like him, but the inflection and timing were terrible. The comedy wasn't good either. You could tell the "soul" that made it Carlin was absent. They didn't have permission and were sued by the Carlin estate.
Some say it was some other comedian and they just changed the voice. I'm not a fan either way.

I think it will be hard to have live spontaneous reactions by AI that will carry what made Cawood and other well known figures "feel" more than hollow. It will cheapen the experience for me.

I understand your POV. I really like Leach on the call with Jack. I didn't care for Pratt on the call too much. He was knowledgeable etc. Just personal preferences.

Now beyond personal preferences, the duo of Ralph and Sam was awful. Ralphh was a great sidekick to Cawood but not a great lead guy.
