The Dallas Mavericks are on the clock. I am Nico Harrison, and I propose a trade to the Sixers for Maxey and #3 for Flagg at #1. Would you do it if you were the Sixers GM?

The Mavs already have a frontline of AD/Lively/Gafford/PJ and Naji Marshall. They need a guard until Kyrie "World B. Flat" Irving comes back.

I didn't even realize the draft was tonight until I was driving home from work yesterday.

If I was the Mavs, I would listen to offers. See if anyone is head over heals for Flagg. I personally don't think he's a generational player. He's good, yes, but I'd listen to offers.
I'll take that as no. You wouldn't give up Maxey and #3 for Flagg. I wouldn't give up Flagg for Maxey and a 2nd round pick, or head up. Doesn't matter though, because Mavs are taking Flagg.

In a real world they should consider it since they could grab Ace Bailey at 3 and he has every bit the chance to be as good IMO, but they won’t. Everyone views Flagg as a surefire superstar so only someone like Jason Tatum level would move that needle.

AD and Kyrie will both be cooked by the time they need to extend Flagg so they're sort of in "win now" mode in a loaded West with Kyrie probably out most of the season.

The Celtics already traded two starters and are allegedly listening to offers for Jaylen Brown and Derrick White. I'm interested to see if one of them gets traded tonight. Or if the Lakers deal for a big man.

Funny to see Ace Bailey pull a Sheduer. One organization he refused to work out for and two others he just notified that he wont go there.

Are the Celtics really going to blow this up just because Tatum is out for a season and a half? Because with Jrue and Porzingus gone, id think they'd have little issue signing Jaylen Brown.

But maybe thats the play for Boston. Totally gut the team for trades assests and younger players, tank next year, grab a top5 pick to pair with Tatum when he returns. It could work.

My kid (UK alum) was happy that she didn’t realize the draft was coming up b/c that means it’s not UK hoops’ biggest night of the year anymore

Yeah I'm glad for tonight not being a big hoopla. I hope we do keep sending guys though because we still need to maintain a presence going forward.

Still could potentially send up to 3 dudes. That would be good.

Kansas could go 0-fer. That would be HILLARIOUS.

UNCheat could only have ONE.

When's the last time RUTGERS might get more dudes to the league than KU and UNC COMBINED.

Sport is a-changing folks.

All the mocks have 3 Duke kids in the top 10. Have we ever had 3 in the top 10? I know we had 2 in each of 2010, 2012 and 2015. If Scheyer isn’t careful folks will start saying he did less with more. Heh

No

We got very close SEVERAL times:

2010: John Wall (1st), DeMarcus Cousins (5th), Patrick Patterson (14th)
2015: Karl-Anthony Towns (1st), Willie Cauley-Stein (6th), Devin Booker (13th)
2017: De'Aaron Fox (5th), Malik Monk (11th), Edrice "Bam" Adebayo (14th)

The Triumvirate of Titles we should've had. 1 we went cold, 1 we got hosed, 1 we choked (and partially got hosed)

I could be wrong but I don't think any school has ever had 3 T10 draft picks. I can't find record of it. Great, another Duke fact for ESPN to SLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURP..

Edit: I am slightly wrong. It has been done, but only in the WNBA- by UCONN.

With that though, Duke becomes the school with the most No. 1 Draft Picks.

Gross.

Also with that, Anthony Davis is still the LAST No. 1 Draft Pick to win a NCAA Men's Title. It's been THIRTEEN years since a Number One pick had a collegiate championship.

No UK/Duke footage in Flagg’s highlight reel?

One positive thing about NIL, these kids aren’t automatically in debt to jewelers, agents, suit makers, etc.

I like the Duke Center, assuming he doesn't get deported. He is one of the best 10 rim protectors in the NBA the minute he sets foot on the court. That's about all he does right now though.

I cheated and Googled it:

2007 Florida: 3rd Horton, 7th Brewer, 9th Noah
2019 Duke: 1st Zion, 3rd Barrett, 10th Reddish

The thing I’m reading didn’t say those were the only 2 times it happened, just the last 2 times it’s happened…..

Something else that showed up in that search: Kentucky leads with 60 first round selections and Duke is second with 56. About to get tighter.

Hard not to like a dude like VJ Edgecombe. Used his NIL money to fund scholarships to the school in the Bahamas he attended.

Proud Of You Yes GIF
That's what I love about the draft. You are seeing 30 family's lives be changed forever tonight, through hard work and God given talent. Nothing could be more American than that.

I missed those somehow.

I like even more when it's a dude that has NO legacy.

I mean Flagg (Mom played ball)
Knuepple (both parents played basketball)
Edgecombe? Only one it seems.

When it's a non legacy that makes some noise? Truly truly special.

Yeah, they could tie tonight.

Lands, the all the Kneupple boys look like douches.

UGH. And the made them pose with Duke's five recent titles.

Trivia. Without looking it up, who was the last one before Davis?

If he can avoid any serious injuries, he is definitely a surefire superstar. Forget he played at Duke, he is the best player in the draft with the highest upside of any player in the draft.
