Murray State

This team may be better than the team that won 23 in a row and was ranked few years ago. And the point guard Payne looks better than Cannan who has started several games for the Rockets.

This team has lost to some pretty bad teams, and lost to Valpo by 35. I'm not saying you are wrong, but idk.

they did start the season pretty bad but have really turned it on to go 14-0 now. there PT guard Payne is only a SO. and he is some kind of good.

I have a friend here in Boulder who's from Denver, but played basketball at Murray. We usually talk a little college basketball. He's the success story of a guy who used his athletic skills to get a college education he might not have gotten otherwise. 6'8", mid 30's. Looks like he could definitely still play. Told me once he was hugely surprised when he went to Murray, and people actually knew who he was. Yea, I told him, there are lot of college basketball fans in Kentucky. He speaks very highly of Murray.

You can't write all that without a name.

murray state has had some damn good basketball teams since the 90s. They gave unc and Kansas good games in the tourney

Some of gottfried teams had some real talent with the old prop 48 rule. He had a team with two of the top scorers in the country on the same team in Vincent Rainey and deteri Mayes. Add in mr basketball Isaac spencer. The old racer arena was like a small Cameron indoor It was a hellava home court advantage. Murray had the home court winning streak for a while in the 90s. That place was rocking. You could feel, the bleachers almost feel like, they were going to,fall

The game against Duke in the tourney I was cheering so,hard they almost upset them but needed up losing by four. Played carolina close twice in the tourney

They had some damn good teams in the 70's and 80's as well. In fact, my favorite Murray team was in the late 80's featuring Don Mann and Jeff Martin. Then Popeyes was next in line.

Popeyes was great! Loved that guy!

i have some fond memories with some of the basketball team members from murray. One of my favorite times was when nelly came to town and all of us football players and basketball players help and after party and nelly and st lunatics came and was epic. Good college times.

Murraynstate is the only 16 seed to take a one seed to overtime.

The year they were really good, ( can't remember) in the 90s they lost the ovc tourney championship off a controversial foul call and missed the tourney with just a handful of losses. ( years are a blur) lol. I think 96-97.

They have been the best statistaclly mid major over the years. They have also been a coaching stepping stone in both sports. Cronin, kennedy, gottfried , nutt, Beamer ect...

I live close to the campus, and there was a buzz around the team before the season started because we all knew how good they could be. Cam Payne showed flashes of brilliance as a freshman last year, so having him returning it looked like things were shaping up to potentially be like the 2012 season when they went 31-2. Then when they started the season 2-4 after getting drilled by Valpo, there was collective feeling of confusion and concern. We should be good but we're not... However, after that loss MSU has turned things around and are playing some great ball.

Sitting at 2-4 on the season, MSU was averaging 68 points per game. Since then they are averaging 84 points per game and are now riding a 14 game winning streak.

The Valpo game was an anomaly. It was just a bad game in a stretch where they played 4 games in 7 days. Plus Valpo is 18-3 this season. The only bad loss was a close one at home to Houston to start the season; the team has changed a lot since then.

People talk about the close calls, when Popeyes team took #1 seed Michigan State to overtime, barely losing to Kansas with Mann and Martin after beating North Carolina State in first round. That was the year Kansas and Danny Manning won it all. Murray was their closest game. Couple of years ago they beat 3rd seeded Vandy in opening round NCAA so they are very successful. 27 straight winning seasons! Steve Prohm is one of the best young coaches in America, came to Murray with Billy Kennedy,

CIT champs last year. Small time nationally but was a lot of fun for the students and players as most of the games were played at The Bank.

Payne went for 33 last night in a big win on the road at Eastern Illinois. I believe Lunardi had Eastern in as his OVC Champion in his bracketology. Of course, it will all come down to the OVC tournament. The Racers could go undefeated in conference play and slip up in the tournament and stay home.

They played very well against Houston in the first half but couldn't buy a bucket in the second half. They are very fun to watch right now. Payne is running away with Player of the Year in the OVC.
