Murray State down 7 with 6 to go in OVC semifinal

If that holds up, somebody on the bubble loses their spot to the OVC champ.

Just got done watch that great Akron vs Kent State game and now this one is exciting and coming down to the end as well. And Baylor was down 3 to Texas Tech last time I checked. A great Friday night of college basketball in early March for a non-NCAAT game.

Murray loses their spot in the dance with a loss

Murray up 1 with the ball with 25 seconds to go. Waiting for Morehead to foul them and send them to the line after the time out.

Good point, he annoys me just as much lol. Seriously always talking that trash to anyone with in ear shot. He's talented though.

Big win for Murray. I hate to see conferences like that have their best team lose out on the NCAAT just because of 3 games at the end of the season. 1 more win for the auto bid. Good luck, Murray.

Racers pull it out. Morehead put it to them for 30 minutes. The second longest streak continues. One more win and the nightmare match up with UK could happen. Then the apocalypse.

You are correct.

I was assuming a Top 25 team would probably get an at large bid, but I hadn't really looked at their resume.

Now that I have, Murray definitely needs to win the OVC tourney to get a bid.

I looked up and Morehead was 10 points up on the Racers. I got busy for a couple of minutes, and Murray was down 2. They won 80-77. Heckovacomeback. Way to go Murray!!!!

There is exactly -100% chance Murray State is a 16 seed.

If Murray wins they will not be a 16 seed. Maybe 14 but definitely no worse than a 15. Maybe even a 13 seed.

Right. They'll be a 13 seed. Not a 16. But as a 13 in UK's bracket maybe they pull a few upsets over a 4 and 5. I'd love to see them as Louisville's 13 if they get a 4. Or their 12 if they get a 5.

Of course they won't be a 16 seed. They will be anywhere from a 14-10.

I'm not liking the EKU or Belmont match up.. EKU nearly beat the Racers at the bank and Belmont will have a big home crowd.

I thought the Racer's might blow it there for awhile. Nice comeback.

They're both Kentucky schools, but in this case I had to be for Murray. There was a lot more at stake for them than this one game, or the OVC title.

As UK fans it's easy for us to forget Morehead's season likely ended tonight as it has already for some other teams, and will more before the weekend is over.

They must be burning the couches in Louisville tonight, being as they won't have to face Morehead again.

EKU would have been the tougher challenge for Murray. Quite honestly, they choked away the game in Murray in regulation, and Murray dominated in the OT.

But, Belmont was one offensive rebound better than EKU tonight and it got them the winning FTs to win it.

It was a very good game. We drove down from Paducah on the fly and glad we did. This team loves to run up and down. They make every attempt to get out on the break. They share the ball and I think they are the 2nd best team in Ky.

I've been saying for weeks that UL doesn't want to have to see them in a 12/5 first round match up. Lunardi had that game in some of his bracketologies a couple weeks ago. Cam Payne may very well be the best player on the court if that matchup were to come to fruition. I've watched them play live a few games this year, and he can score from anywhere on the court.

For those that didn't see the game, Murray was up 11 at half time. They came out cold in the second half, and Morehead didn't. The roles ended up reversed and Murray was down 11 with 8-9 minutes left to play They slowly started to come back, and then with a couple minutes left Cam took over and hit some BIG shots to get the win. He'll play in the NBA one day.

Murray is a really good team. They won despite not playing their best game at all! Morehead played very well and were red hot most of the 2nd half. Murray has a pretty balanced team with Cam Payne, TJ Sapp, and Jeffrey Moss as the backcourt. Jarvis Williams is a pretty good frontcourt and Jonathan Farrell has decent size and good post presence. When they are ON, they could be a tough out for anyone. Cam Payne was Mr Basketball in Tennessee.

Belmont's on spring break. I was disappointed by how few fans they had there last night, though it was a late game. Murray's fans really travel, the last time they faced Belmont in the OVC final it was in Nashville and it appeared they had more fans there than Belmont did.

I'm torn about this game - I'm a Belmont mom and would love to see them in the NCAA tournament since they just missed it last year due to an upset by EKU. But I would love to see Murray's streak continue and I think they could definitely win a game or even two in the NCAA tournament. This is not a great Belmont team, especially compared to their last 3, and if they somehow manage to win tonight I don't think they will have much of a shot in the NCAA because they will be a 15 or 16 seed.

Question....Murray State is ranked #25 in the latest AP poll. If they were to lose in the OVC title game, why exactly would that knock them out of the Big Dance ???

I disagree. They have no quality wins and have some bad losses. Their poor start to the season cost them the resume that they were hoping to build. If they lose today, they will not be ranked in next week's poll... The OVC is a one-bid conference, and it's reserved for the conference champion. I'm not sure the last time a team from the OVC got an at-large bid, if ever.

Their best win (and only Top 100 win) is Illinois St, which to their credit are riding a 5 game winning streak and has climbed to the #73 spot in RPI rankings. However, Murray lost to Portland at #150 and also Houston at #248. Murray has a team worthy of playing in the NCAA, even if they were to lose today. Unfortunately, when it comes down to their resume they won't make it. They have to win today to keep their season alive IMO. No way Belmont and Murray both go to the tourney.

I live near Murray's campus and am considering driving down to Nashville to watch the championship this afternoon. Really hoping the Racers get it done.

I remember one year when OVC had two teams in, the year Middle Tennessee beat Kentucky in opening round. Austin Peay with Fly Williams also beat Illinois that same year if I am not mistaken!
