Not only is this kid starting to put it together on the offensive end but yesterday was the best defensive game I witnessed from him... He was very active with deflections, steals, blocks and just busting his ass.... I dont know how he does it considering how hard he works on the offensive end to get open for shots...

Jamal Murray is an NBA lottery pick after this season. He skipped his senior year of high school to play for Kentucky. When you consider his level of experience in the game, he is remarkable. He has great length, strength, skills, and is rapidly improving every week. By March, he could be the best college guard in the country. Yesterday I was talking with other fans during the game, and we discussed the fact that Murray didn't commit until the summer. Without Murray, this team would have been in real trouble. But with Murray, this team can beat almost anyone on a given day.

And to think that Murray should be a senior in high school this year, but chose to come out early and is a star player for Kentucky. It's hard to believe how good he can be with a few more years under his belt... he is basically still a high schooler.

Murray always puts in the effort, the kid gives 100%. Most of our players give 100%, Ulis, Briscoe, Willis etc. We have some guys who take plays off but that doesn't happen a lot. Most of the time its mental of what they are supposed to be doing on the court.

Not bad for a 17 year old kid. Project his performance on both ends of the court in two months….. Two months. That's a lot of time to give talented kids like we have to figure this out.

He's similar to Julius Randle in that he can get you a reasonable shot if everything breaks down . The 13 team lacked that type of player and offensively we lacked that type of player last year , it cost us as in the f4 . Booker could shoot but not effectively crest his own shot , the entire team was in that same boat that they relied on the offense to help them get a shot . Aaron Harrison could shoot a deep three but he wasn't great at driving for a better shot . Brandon Knight was another player with that skill . Murrays skill is invaluable on a team like this .

I'm a big fan of Murray. The kid's not 17, though. He's less than a month from his 19th birthday right now.

Yeah it's not correct to say he should be in high school still, he could've been, yes, but it made no sense for him to stay. Made much more sense to rejoin his original class and get to the NBA a year earlier.

I noticed an increased intensity in ball-hawking the Vandy guards. I think that's an emphasis Cal has placed on the team. Do not let the opposing teams get comfortable. Briscoe and Ulis already do this regularly, and Murray is ratcheting this up as well.

I think people forget that.

I don't understand this. Forget what? Everyone knows he's a freshman. He's not a young freshman, either. He's a terrific player, one of the best in the nation. I just don't think it makes sense to overplay the reclassified thing. He's in the class he should be in for a guy his age.

See.

Yeah he's been a projected lottery pick since last summer. The notion that he's 17 and should be a senior is somewhat misguided given he'll be eligible for the draft and one year removed from HS.

In addition, he's had good ball-pressure all year long and has created turnovers. Hell of a motor on this young man.

Seems like Murray is a little more versatile than Booker was, but if I needed a clutch shot, I'd pick Booker. I think Booker is a better pure shooter, but Murray is better at creating shots.

I would take Murray if I needed a key bucket. 2 or 3 pointer. Booker was great early last season but he hit a wall where he could off greatly.

Yep Murray has more of a killer instinct and creates his shot better than any other Gaurd in the Cal Era....

Murray will be a better pro than Booker, IMO. Also, Murray is shooting around 38% from 3. I think Booker was around 40-42%. Booker is the better shooter, but Murray is the better scorer. I think Murray will be an all-star at some point.

I, too, am a huge fan of Jamal Murray (and Alex Poythress, and Tyler Ulis, and Isaiah Briscoe, and Marcus Lee). I completely agree with the poster who wrote, "Without Murray, this team would have been in real trouble. . . "

But I have to disagree with the same poster who also wrote, "But with Murray, this team can beat almost anyone on a given day." After watching them blow a 10-point lead to Auburn, I'd say that this team -- notwithstanding it's overwhelming assembly of basketball talent -- can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on any given day. (And who do we see about that?)

Did you miss our last two wins since then, or are you just miserable? This is the second post I've seen from you about the Auburn loss in the past 15 minutes.
