Murray Behind the Back Dunk

He has very quick hands that is for sure. I've watched him play live and in person several times. I've never seen him display John Wall athleticism but he has more athleticism than the Harrisons do. He is not on the level of Mulder either. Does not mean that he isn't an athletic kid just means he doesn't have that out of this world ability.
He has more basketball skills than any of em though and that is all that matters to me. :sunglasses:

The people at practices are giving off the vibe that Mulder is our most athletic guard since James Young, so I think Murray being less than him is alright.

^ what Huma said. I'm totally on the Murray hyporboly band wagon. I don't think most UK fans know what a huge day it was when he committed. It was a day that translates to us playing the final monday in April. True dat.

What date do we become officially worried that he may not come?

None. Jay Triano and John Calipari talk to each other daily. If he won't be able to play, then team Canada will cut him loose this year. If he's able to play FIBA, as well as college basketball, he will.

Thanks. When would FIBA end if Canada goes all the way?

Final is September 12, but it is the semifinals (September 11) that matter (top two finishers qualify for Olympics).

I don't want to get into a whole thing but I remain baffled by anyone who watched James Young play for us and still thinks of him as a great athlete.

Young was known as the best athlete of that bunch by far. Keep in mind that passing and playing lazy defense are not key factors of athleticism...

Randle was a better athlete. james had the best dunk though.

No, Randle will tell you James was a better athlete. Julius is stronger, better motor, not more athletic. Many on campus were waiting on James to show a bit more of his athleticism, but we only got it in spurts.

The Celtics are counting on it as well. Keep in mind he only turned 20 today.

If Randle were a better athlete than James Young he'd have been the top pick in the draft. That would be Wiggins/Gordon territory.

J Y never impressed me as an athlete. That dunk aside, athletes work, screen, defend, rebound. Yes, he was a cat and I lived him in blue, just seemed to noy really bring it

people always post that dunk

He has long arms, he's 6-6 and his head got nowhere near the rim. Wall, Bledsoe, Poythress, those are great athletes. Young is slow and couldn't even hope to guard Luke Hancock.

He's actually 6'6.75" based on his NBA Draft combine measurement. But yes he is a pretty good athlete in terms of leaping with a max vert of 35.5", but that's certainly not elite. His 7'0" wingspan is freakishly elite though.

I'm not sure if he'll ever amount to much of anything in the NBA. He looked just awful at Summer League, not even close to looking like an NBA player. I think at one point he got benched. He's working out with Kevin Durant this summer so maybe Durant can get Young to get his act together.

Wildcatboston is absolutely correct - work ethic or technique have nothing to do with athleticism, neither do stats, you are applying your own definition.

And I agree, no one said he was elite in athleticism. He was simply the best athlete in his UK class.

I'm another that really never thought Young was that great of an high riser. Don't get me wrong, he wasn't bad, but I have some friends that had it in their heads that he could fly and would watch every game thinking this was the game he would show the hops. I always thought he was a very good player, but if he would only put a lil more effort on the defensive side, he could have been one of the best in the country.

It's nice to see the kid has more hops than many Kentucky fans thought. To pull that dunk off, you have to be able to get off the floor. When I see this, it makes me most excited thinking about the potenial it brings on defense for Murray. I was really never worried too much about Murray on that side of the floor, but with just so much jumping ability, it means he is a more serious threat defender. Even though hes not the type that will be dunking on people, its nice to know he could throw down on someone if he wanted to.

Randle was by far the best athlete on that team. 6'9 250 guys shouldn't be able to move like he could.

Randle's quickness, agility and body control for his size and build was unique. Plus he had a 38" vertical on a bad foot at the combine.

I believe that was one of the UK combines, where even Dakari and myself have 40 inch verticals.

His official verticals were 29 and 35.5 at the combine on every site I have seen.

Both were very good athletes. How about that?
