Monday Insider Notes were not posted long ago so you know things are popping right and left.
** The people I speak with still think Kentucky is in the best position to hold onto Kiyaunta Goodwin. If that happens then you will have to credit Marrow. Not going to get into everything but this has needed to be smoothed over and I think the relationship that Marrow has had with Goodwin and Vaughn are the best things going for Kentucky right now.
** On the topic of Marrow, I have heard from a couple of people that the Louisville stuff that was about to break a while back was that Satterfield would be out, Brohm would be in, and they would make a run at VM making him the right hand man there with a substantial raise. Don't know all the details or much beyond that but at least part of it is consistent with all the chatter that there was an about face and 180 on the part of their decision makers.
** There has been talk about Notre Dame being interested in two of the assistants on staff now. Will mention who later and don't think it will happen.
** Do think there will probably be one position that needs to be filled.
** Don't be surprised if two names emerge as serious options to fill spots on the defensive staff this offseason: Matt House and Mike Stoops. Don't know that they would have room for both but those are the two I would watch for. House would be a huge addition. The guy brought in Chris Rodriguez, Jamin Davis, Yusuf Corker, and was a very good coach. From what I've heard he would be very open to getting back into the college game. Stoops almost happened earlier but they had to go through a whole process with them being related and it didn't work out for whatever reason but could be an option again.
** There has been talk of Alex Afari flipping to Cincinnati. I heard the issue might be the possibility of the Bearcats also bringing David Afari (Miami-OH) onto scholarship as well. However Kentucky has monitored this situation and even after some of the recent "flip watch" stuff the Wildcats seem to be confident in their ability to hold onto him.
** Heard today for the first time that folks believe they knocked Ja'Kobi Albert's visit out of the park. UK should be considered a major player with the Auburn commit and I think it's going to be very close down the stretch. Closer than I thought it would be before the visit. He's slotted for defense but if he flips then they could fight over him when he gets to campus.
** Downgrading my confidence level in Khris Bogle to UK from "feel good about it" to "it's close" so the Albert news is balanced out by that. There is another major player. It's Kentucky vs Michigan State and seems to be close.
To recap as of this PM ...
- UK thinks it holds onto Goodwin and Afari but there has been drama
- I think Nicholson flips to MSU
- Real shot with Kobi Albert
- But it's tight w/ MSU for Bogle
- Heard nothing new on Manning, Farmer, Robinson, Walker, and Frazier which is good news
