benny is great but I've got to go with moe. I didnt really follow cats football until 1994 so there may be an oldie like Higgs that might top both.

I suspect that Benny's total numbers will only be comparable to Sonny Collins when he is done.

Moe had speed, vision, and allusiveness. He was special, but benefited from a remarkably run happy offense, having 30 plus carries in several games. Benny will never likely see more than 20.

I vote Moe, because EVERYONE in the stadium knew he was getting the ball and they still couldn't stop him. Also, Moe had a lot less to work with team talent wise. He ran behind a lot of awful offensive lines and still managed to do big things. I could only imagine what Moe could have done behind this line. Not taking anything away from Benny, who knows when its all said and done he could be one the best to ever walk through here.

MOE UP THE MIDDLE....

The announcers for those games could do it blindfolded.
Cawood could have called any UK sport blindfolded and still have been better than anyone else of his (or any other) day.

Sonny Collins was the best runner,Moe could catch the ball out of the backfield better.Snell was only a frosh last year,it remains to be seen what skills he develops. He has a shot to be in their league.

Actually, Moe's O-line was far from chopped liver. He had a young but talented o-line that had some size and athleticism.

The only objective measurement at this time is Moe and Benny's total yardage as freshmen, and Benny edges Moe in that category.

If Benny stays hungry and healthy, he'll catch Sonny Collins, . . . . and can do it in three seasons.

Ditto on staying hungry and healthy.

Wayyyy to early to make that comparison. That is not a slight to Snell; it is the extremely high regard I have for Williams.

If Snell has a year like he had last year (I see no real reason why he should not) I will say he is the best I have seen since Williams. But I'll have to see the whole history before saying he was better than Moe.

So far the common denominator that I see between Snell and Williams is that both can/did get you a 3 or 4 yard run when you really needed a 3 or 4 yard run (often not the case with Sonny). Moe might have been a step faster and a more "elusive".

But the thing I really like about Snell is he seems to be one of those guys that runs just as hard on his 20th carry as he did on his 10th carry. Offensive football is a lot different now than the days of the Pro I with a 25+ carry I-back. Last year, there were only 16 RBs that averaged 20+ carries/game (Snell averaged 14) but I feel pretty confident he could easily give you at least 6 more per game if the staff wanted to go in that direction.

Peace

I'd have to go with Moe up to this point. Benny had an unbelievable season & could possibly surpass Moe as a RB as his body of work grows. No knock on Snell, though. Moe was just an amazing back & also set the UK season record for rushing yards by a freshman with 928 in '93, I believe. He had 299 yards on the ground & 429 total yards (which was & may still be the SEC record for scrimmage yards in a game) against South Carolina his senior season. He ran for 1600 yards that year, averaging 145/game with 17 TDs. He actually set a few records at UK & was drafted by the Vikings in the 3rd round & had a 10 year career in the league. I loved what I saw from Snell as a freshman but he's got a little ways to go before he's in that conversation.

I loved & enjoyed all the guys mentioned. I think BJS most closely resembles Artose & George Adams in running style: mainly straight ahead & many yards after contact. That said, I think I enjoyed Higgs & Moe best. I'm open to re-evaluating. The non-RB who was great fun to watch run was Derrick Ramsey. Also BJ Haskins.

I don't have the stats, but I would have thought that Benny already has had a game with 30 carries. The future depends a lot on how our other backs turn out.

Not sure why you think Benny won't see more than 20. He had a few games last year where he was over 20 carries, and that was with Boom in the fold. He had 38 carries against Mizzou (?).

We were a running team last year, and will be this year as well. He will be the focal point of the running attack this fall.

Moe finding another gear and running away from the Florida secondary in 1993 was one my favorite all time UK football fan moments.

Moe also gets bonus points for his role in the sex boat.
And Fred Smoot was the ringleader, lol? Just change the o's in his name to u's.

I'll go with the dad of the kid that just got drafted last night.

George Adams.

Sonny Collins was great, but he was extremely fumble prone. My money for the time being would be Moe but Benny could turn out better in the long run.

How can anyone compare Benny to a three or four year guy at this point?
If our O line continues to be good or maybe become "great" and Benny stays healthy, he will no doubt be the best back ever at UK!
Benny Snell is going to be a super star on a national level and will remain one of if not the best back in the nation in his year class!
I'm not ready to predict a great defense but our offense is going to be very good for the next few years.
While on a roll I will mention one Gunnar Hoak! He gonna be good!

When Benny is alone in the back field getting the direct snap, I'm pretty sure every opponent knew he was gonna run over or through them also.
Don't remember him getting stopped very often either.
Would have liked to see Boom and Benny behind SJ a few times each game.

I'm not comparing over all body of work, I'm comparing players. I think benny is great but moe was awesome. He was big and fast, fun to watch.

Benny had an awesome first year and he appears to be in the league with the best that have played for UK. His success is, in part, founded upon an uncanny determination and maturity. Most of the best backs at UK were not as mature and driven as Benny as a freshman. Their physical skills were the main reason for their ability to stand out young. Some RBs that are in UK's record books never developed Benny's psyche toward the job. If you take that away, I think there are many backs that were comparable to Snell. So, while I expect BS to improve because I know he is mastering the offense and will be relentless in the film room and in improving weaknesses, other than his inhuman leg kick, I don't know if he has the physical gifts of some other stars from years past. That said, he could be the best.

Since Moe is the leading rusher in Kentucky football history, it isn't a fair comparison. Moe was faster than Benny, but Benny is the strongest downhill runner I have seen here. Artose Pinner a much better comparison, but I think Benny is a little more versatile.
