Is he falling out of the rotation ?
He's not the same player he was earlier this season.
He's not the same player he was earlier this season.
He doesn’t fit and he doesn’t make us better. He’s far weaker at the 4 than Thiero and Edwards. The fact that it has taken Cal this long to recognize that Adou brings a lot more than Mitchell is mind-boggling. It’s crazy that Tre was leading the team in minutes halfway through the season. Is he falling out of the rotation ?

Well to be fair he did get hurt and probably still not 100% but I agree there is better options now however when he was getting all the minutes Edwards was struggling and not producing anythingHe doesn’t fit and he doesn’t make us better. On a human level, I feel bad for the guy. he came here and was probably assured big minutes - which he got in the beginning. But with our roster, I don’t know that we need him to play a single minute.
Exactly. Cal built another strange roster. He was quite good as a small ball 5. Cal won't play him there because he needs to spread minutes at the 5 among 3 centers.
Nah he’s been playing like this before he got injured. Just not the player we thought he wasStill knocking the rust off
Well, that may be true, what is being said in this thread is also true. He is the weakest 4 on this team and there’s a log jam at the 5.Still knocking the rust off
And coming into tonight’s game he was averaging 32.4 minutes. Without a doubt, he is the weakest link.I have said it over and over the past 2 months, and have been ridiculed plenty...Tre Mitchell should not be playing unless someone in front of him is injured or in foul trouble.
He is slow, lazy defensively, can't block shots, and can't even hit from the outside anymore. He looks terrible.
Remember when Cal said “Wagner and Mitchell only come out when they ask…they have to be on the court”…. Not even in our top 3 players but that’s the 2 that he saw as not being able to sub for and they were getting 30+ minutes. Kinda crazy when you think about it. Both are valuable but Reeves is who needs to be on the floor as much as possible with combinations of Reed/Dilly/Wagner in that order at the other 2 guard spots. And Thiero should have been obvious after the UNC game. He was a game changer in arguably our best win. (He should have had more minutes last season too and that was obvious but neither here nor there now)He doesn’t fit and he doesn’t make us better. He’s far weaker at the 4 than Thiero and Edwards. Yes. It’s pure insanity. Wagner has had a couple good shooting nights (finally), but it remains the case that he’s a much lesser talent than the other guards and he’s absolutely not a lead guard. Not at any level have I seen a guy be so unaware of where he is on the court and commit a back court violation the way he did tonight. And Tre is just brutal.Remember when Cal said “Wagner and Mitchell only come out when they ask…they have to be on the court”…. Not even in our top 3 players but that’s the 2 that he saw as not being able to sub for and they were getting 30+ minutes. Kinda crazy when you think about it. He was nothing more than a stop-gap until the young-n's came along, and we didn't have any of the bigs at the time. If they were all like that in the beginning of the season, he'd be getting scrap minutes. That's what happens when you have depth.Tre is an average ball player and really always has been. He’s not what many made him out to be imo. He doesn’t do anything great and a few things well, while being pretty bad at several aspects. This team is different now than it was at the start of the year. There just aren’t going to be the minutes there when we’re playing 3 bigs.
I happen to think that the team already can be bonkers as is. Just play Dillingham, Reed, and Reeves 30+ minutes from here on out and see what happens. Play Adou 30 if he’s up for it. And use DJ and Edwards to give those four a break. Then play the big who is being most productive.I hate to be the woulda coulda shoulda guy, but could you imagine if we had gotten Dalton Knecht? I’m not even sure if we offered him or not but him on this team would’ve been bonkers.

It’s a pretty solid roster if you ask me. You can’t ever fault Cal for the roster he puts together. It’s rarely the roster that’s the problemExactly. Cal built another strange roster.
At this point, I would call the minutes that Tre is getting sympathy minutes. If we want to have any chance in the SEC tournament and the NCAA tournament, we can’t give Tre meaningful minutes at the 4. The stretch that he’s played while we’ve been up double digits is fine, but at this point, that’s the only scenario in which we can play him.

Yep, the best Mitchell has ever looked was when he was playing the center spot. And, to be honest, we still might be best with him at the 5.He was quite good as a small ball 5. Cal won't play him there because he needs to spread minutes at the 5 among 3 centers.
