Actually, none of that is true. Dr. Todd took Cal's name out of consideration the first time. The second time, Mitch convinced Dr. Todd to meet with Cal and judge for himself. That story was told by Dr. Todd himself and confirmed by Mike Pratt.
As for Stoops, yes he wanted the job and applied for it. That is common with any job opening. To suggest that if an AD hires someone who applies, instead of someone targeted by the AD, he was lucky, has no clue about how hiring people. It is common for people to apply for job openings and many times they turn out to be the best candidates. It is not a shortcoming of the person hiring that he hired someone who applied.
