Mingione Contract Extension

Mingione definitely doesn't deserve it but if he want to show he deserves it UK Baseball HAS to go undefeated until we start conference play.

I understand this move..... you need the contract out as long as the current kids you are recruiting will be on campus or other programs will kill you with this angle.

Then canceling last season really puts you behind the 8-ball as you have no way to know if progress was being made or not.

So now you make this move and put all kinds of pressure on the program to now show real progress this season or this will end up really costing the AD some cash.

This is also a signal to the next coach that the AD will have your back and will provide you the resources to do your job to the best of your abilities.

I may not like this move......but I understand as see the logic.

Good grief. This is the stupidest thing, week maybe number two, that Mitch has done. What has he done to warrant an extension?

I had heard it was 5 years, so this is much better than that. I believe he is getting a pay reduction as well. I hope there is not a buyout clause, but I imagine there would be.

I mean, in some ways, I get it... you need this for recruiting. However, at the same time... things have not been good. I doubt last year would have been much better than the year before. Maybe this year is a turnaround, but one game in doesn't give us a clear enough picture to really know.

So, I hate this.

Recruiting move. 3 years is telling too. Not a full cycle so it's basically a nail already in the coffin. I would say the contract will be telling and the buyout greatly reduced for year 2 and 3. Just a guess.

Interesting development to say the least...In the elite travel ball circle in Indianapolis/Dayton/Cincy area University of Kentucky baseball and coaches are a joke...

And at the premier Dayton program (with over 20 drafted players since 2004), coaches from UK aren’t even allowed in the training facility.

Why is that? Nick seems so personable and a good person. Are these Dayton coaches screwed up? Why would you keep a D1 SEC staff out - just seems it hurts the players.

Goes way back to Madison...Henderson though really screwed it up...look at Casey Schroeder...good enough to go to coastal Carolina and win a World Series and get drafted...but he was encouraged to transfer because he was not “good enough” to play at UK...current staff has not attempted to repair those relationships. The Dayton/Indy/Cincy programs send their players elsewhere...and those programs...like the Indianapolis Bulls, Indy Stix, Dayton Classics, Gem City Throwbacks, Cincy Flames, Riverbats, Ohio Elite etc...play at an elite national level, put kids in MLB and dont send players to UK...

It’s not about being personable, its about being competent...and with the changes in NCAA baseball scholarship rules, private schools, and schools with endowments will leave schools like UK behind...the new scholarship rules greatly expands the available dollars to programs that recruit and try to win Scholarship rule changes

Ever wonder why so many kids from WKY chose to go play baseball at UL or elsewhere and do really well and make the minors and even MLB?

I dont mean to sound like a jerk here, but there is so much baseball talent within 250 miles of campus and I am tired of UK baseball being such a clown show.

Most of this isn’t true. I’m pretty well tuned in to the travel Baseball scene. First of all while some of those travel teams you listed are solid I wouldn’t consider any of them Elite with maybe the exception being the Indiana Bulls. The Midland Redskins and the Ohio Warhawks are elite. They place many players in Division 1 programs and have some that go on to play the the MLB level.
Kentucky coaches are welcomed with open arms.
You do know the last couple arms to throw for Kentucky yesterday are from the Cincinnati area don’t you? Please don’t try to spew unwarranted negativity towards the Baseball program. Competing in the SEC is hard enough as it is.At least come with factual information and not biased opinions.

Oh...ok....🙄

I have an idea...maybe you should look at TBR before you spew “un warranted negativity”

Or are you one of these “daddy ball” people that believe their 12U chunky kid is the next MLB allstar?

Thank you for clarifying. I didn’t think this staff would be unwelcome anywhere from the admittedly brief times I heard them talk.
Sounds kinda personal with Nawlij. I do agree with him there are a lot of good baseball players around here and UK needs to recruit and get them.
Mitch must see improvements as I thought for sure he would let this season play out a bit before an extension.
We all do agree we want UK to win.

By TBR do you mean travel ball rankings? If so come on man. Travel teams typically get ranked higher because they send multiple teams to Perfect Game or PBR tournaments that have sky high entry fees. In turn PG and PBR rank their teams high. The whole idea of you scratch my back I’ll scratch your back.

And no I don’t have a 12 year old son. We’ll just leave it at we’ve been through this whole deal and it’s turned out pretty well for my kid. Does your son play for some skank organization that sells itself on a PG or PBR ranking? I bet your son takes lesson at $75 an hour off his Summer Coach. Have they promised you that your son will be recruited but when you go to these big tournaments you look around and no colleges are there? Wander why?
