Milwaukee v Kentucky (Game 1)

Got a couple of changes as Church makes his debut for UK at 3B and Lewis gets off the injury/Covid train and will man 2B.

Sophomore Stupp will be on the bump. Just less than 1 hour away.

Cats get 2 on 3rd and 2nd with 0 outs and can't plate either as Collett popped out to ss, Schultz got thrown out trying to steal home and Anu struck out

0-0 going to 2

Top of the 2nd was a struggle for UK as it started with a walk and then two failed DP attempts that just went as FCs before an infield single put runners on 1st and 2nd with down. A strikeout ended the threat.

UK plates two when Hill walked, stole second and then moved to third on a grounder that Ritter beat out. Church then smacked one to left center into the gap that scored them both.

2-0 UK

Stupp struggled with command a bit in the 3rd. He's up to about 45 pitches. Got a strikeout to end the inning and strand 2.

2-0 UK going to the bottom half of the 3rd.

Collett struck out on a very good curve up in the zone. Just froze him. Anu shortened the swing with 2 strikes and rolled it back up the middle for a single. Nice hitting there. Rubalcaba stroked one to left, but right at left fielder. Man that was a good looking swing though. Hill gets hit by a pitch and they call that a bunt attempt so it goes as a strike. Looks like a knee maybe. He's not putting weight on it, but now jogging it out. That's the tough thing on bunt attempts, hard to know when they actually go around.

And stole second on a delayed steal. Hill grounded back to the pitcher to end the inning.

I think he'll stay in the game, but he did seem to be limping a bit running to first. Likely a bruise he'll feel even more tomorrow.

Back to back singles against Stupp in the 4th with 0 outs. One went past Ritter and he maybe should have had it, but it was hit sharply. Could have been 2, but not an error.

Stupp gets his 4th strikeout for the first out. Freshman Seth Logue up in the bullpen for UK.

Stupp got away with a hanging one that went foul, but he's struggling with location. He got a grounder to 2nd and Lewis goes to 2nd for one but UK can't turn 2. We have had a lot of chances to turn 2 and just can't quite get it done.

Ground out to short ends the threat. Stupp hasn't been dominating, but he's served up a ton of grounders... an infielder's dream. I bet that was his last inning.

2-0 going to bottom 4

Ritter struck out looking. Church struck out as well. Lewis with a good at bat to draw a walk and then steals second. Schultz also walks. Wild pitch advances the runners. So, runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. Mahoney really struggling to find the zone. Another wild pitch and ball four scores a run and puts runners on the corners. That pitch was really really wild. 3-0 UK.

Collett up. Lefty on lefty and Mahoney been missing arm side, so Collett might be in some danger there. He's found something with a ball in the dirt that TJ can't lay off of and then a knee high strike. Another WP scores Schultz. 4-0. Seems like Mahoney can't grip the curve. It's way wild. Collett walks as well.

Mahoney's day is done. UK has scored 2 and doesn't have a hit. New pitcher will be a righty.

Anu gets the hit of the inning and it brings in Rhodes. That one was a little slap to right. 5-0.

Rubalcaba sent a routine dribbler to third and it gets sailed over the 1st baseman. Everyone is safe. 6-0 UK.

Hill grounds one right back up the middle and scores Anu. 7-0.

Cats bat around with just 2 hits in the inning. Ritter back up for a second time. He grounds out to second.

5 run inning makes it 7-0 and we go to the 5th.

Cam Hill runs all the way in to almost the infield to take a popup behind second. He called everyone off to get it. Nice play.

Schultz gets a can of corn in left for the second out.

Another popup, almost the same place as the first one, but this one not as high and Lewis hauls it in for a 3 up 3 down inning.

Wow! Church absolutely murdered one that was about chest high but it went foul. He then went oppo taco and put it in a tough spot but the rf hauled it in. Lewis then went down looking. Pitch looked high and outside, but they rang him up. Schultz hustle paid off as the SS didn't charge an easy infield grounder and Schultz beats the throw. He then stole second and third. Thought they had him at third. Throw was high or he's out. Rhodes works it full before drawing a walk. Collett goes the other way against the shift and UK scores. 8-0

Shelby going to run for Collett. They say Collett has over 100 hits and 100 RBIs in his UK career.

Interesting pinch runner there because Shelby only plays OF. So, unless UK does a switch, Shelby won't hit or play defense and likely Harmon comes in to 1B.

Anu skies one but it's got little behind it and it dies in mid center.

8-0 going to 6th.

Rhodes actually goes to 1st and Shelby to right.

Logue gets hit pretty hard but. No damage done.

8-0 bottom 6

Rubalcaba with a single to the left side and then stole second. Hill moved him over with a ground out to second. Church popped up to shallow center but it bounced off the CF glove to score a run.

9-0 going to the 7th.

Logue got in a touch of trouble giving up a 2 out triple, but he came right back and got a K to end the frame. Nice job.

9-0

Good news, there'll be a doubleheader tomorrow instead of Game 3 being on Sunday. Game 2 will start at noon and both games will be 7 innings.

Game 1 at noon. Game 2 likely just after. I'll have to manage my time tomorrow. Lol

Game 2 starts in 2 1/2 hours and I cannot wait. If Kentucky comes out of today 4-0, it will be amazing because I like our schedule leading up to conference play. We really could be undefeated going into the Mizzou series.

Good win. Anytime you score 10 runs and pitch a shutout is a good day. I understand the level of competition is low but hopefully a string of big wins at the start of season will give them confidence heading into the SEC meat grinder.

Anything could happen but we should without a doubt not lose before conference play.
