ESPN has atleast 4 articles about Simmons and how good he probably is. One is about metrics favoring Simmons over Anthony Davis.......after 12 games lmfao. I KNOW for a damn fact Simmons would'nt get his shot off on Davis and Simmons defense is garbage. PERIOD end story on that one.
They are hoping against hope he destroys Kentucky tonight like Buddy Hield did last night against KU.
The Ben 'BEST IN THE WORLD' Simmons hype train needs some Kentucky fuel and I hope we stop this fycker dead in his tracks.
I say play the Lumberjack against him some because Aussies and Kiwi's hate each other.

Simmons is certainly putting up bigger stats than AD...but he won't win a national title (will be a bubble team guy) and if he puts up big numbers against UK tonight color me unimpressed. If he did it against our 2010, 2012 or 2015 team I'd be more impressed.

It is kind of odd being on the other side of this a bit. In the sense, that now UK gets its chance at competing against the top prospect. It usually seems to be the other way around. I'm excited for the game, reading quotes from the coaches it seems the players are looking forward for the chance of trying to shut down the top pick.

Ben Simmons game is very similar to Royce White except Ben isn't batshit crazy. Just occurred to me that they have the same game. I hope he doesn't do what White did to us in 2012. He was stout in that game against Davis and Jones with his dunking and passing.
These type of players are tough to stop and you really can only try and limit how much stats they stack up on you. Lebron James type game is a bitch to stop.

I hope he does and it goes exactly like that game did...we won that game by like 16 points with ease.

yep I remember their shooters being off in that game. White dunked and passed all day but his team sucked that day at shooting. Seems like Iowa state had a dead eye shooter that year and he got shut down if I recall.

If you stop Blakeney of LSU who is their #1 gunner then LSU usually sucks.

I've only seen him play once, Saturday night versus Vanderbilt. . . but I was very impressed. Extremely poised and composed for a freshman.

I could care less if he scores 20, 30 or 40. As long as we get the W I will be happy. I will be double happy if we can shut the media up about this kid even though I do think he is a nice prospect, he hasn't went against a defense or a man in AP like he will tonight.

This game is going to garner some serious national attention. It's a good opportunity for us to pass the "eye" test, look good, and put some of the negativity from our OOC forever in our rear view.

Simmons looks good, and I heard on KSR that it is probably better to allow Simmons to get his points. But I like what we did vs. Ole Miss that allowed us to take over the game early.

Simmons said on ESPN last night that he could develop better at LSU than Duke, Carolina or Kentucky......uh huh.

I'm not allowing Simmons to do anything extra, nor will I just give up fouls to put him on the line. Let Hornsby and Blakeney beat us against who we defend against them.

With a win tonight, we push LSU closer to the NIT, and ESPN can hype Simmons over in that tournament. Simmons went to LSU so he could be in the spotlight.

All you people that are "unimpressed" are missing out on watching one of the best freshman players in the last decade. It's okay to admit that he's really, REALLY good. It doesn't make you less of a UK fan by admitting a great player when you see one. I've watched Simmons several times now, and every time I've come away thinking "wow, that kid is good."

The Cal haters will be in euphoria if LSU wins tonight and Simmons is on fire. You can hear them giggling now. Simmons is an elite talent. I'm not sure you can stop players like him.

What I hope to see is UK's own talented players play like they are capable of doing. If they do that, I like UK's chances.

Well, Simmons has performed more impressively for the first half of the season than Davis did on an individual level. But he's not even close to the contributor to the team success. The stats for Davis were not gaudy in college, but if you watched any game after the first couple that season and saw the look of defeat in the eyes of any opponent trying to score within 15 feet of the basket.. passing up shots that are normally good, getting blocked, altered, dribbling off their foot because they're looking for the albatross wing to come swooping in - Davis's reign of terror just did way more for his team than anybody else has done in a very long time.

Now, usually the individual vs team success distinction has to do with volume scoring guards who bring nothing else to the table and who never win championships.

Somehow, Simmons does absolutely everything and they still lose.

Would LSU with Davis instead be 8-5? C'mon. Please.

That's pretty interesting. Did he actually give any reason as to why he thinks that? It's not like LSU is know for pumping out top draft picks.

He basically said he was comfortable on the LSU campus and ready to commit is all I got our of it. He didn't like the recruiting process.

I disagree with him, even though he is very talented and worthy of the #1 selection.

Simmons is the best play in the country. Hands down. He deserves comparisons to Davis. Davis was much better on the defensive end and that's how he controlled the game by himself. Simmons, while very athletic, isn't the rim protector Davis was. Simmons deserves all the media attention because there isn't many "Elite" guys this year. Anyone hating on him is just a hater.

I would have to agree with you, seems odd to just pick LSU. I know he has some type of family member on the staff, so I'm sure that had a huge impact on it.

The recruiting process has to be horrible to some of these kids, so I understand that. The constant nagging and guessing people do would drive me nuts too. It's just odd that he says he'd develop better at LSU, as opposed to a blue blood. I'm just can't help to think if Simmons was on UK, Duke, UNC, or KU. Put him on any four of those rosters and game over.

Impressed with Ben Simmons - yes; absolutely. Actually thought last night what if he were on the OU team with Hield?

If Jones was even a moderately decent coach, I think that team would be undefeated, or close to it.

LSU wouldn't be 8-5 with Coach Cal as the HC. Would AD get Cal or Jones as the coach if he was on this year's LSU team instead of Simmons? That is a big deal in my prediction on record.

It'll be interesting to see if we defend LSU the same way we did that game - guard the big guy 1 on 1, let him get his numbers, and shut everybody else down. LSU only shoots 32% from 3 and only Hornsby shoots better than 33%. If we are going to help on Simmons, it will have to come from anybody but Hornsby.

co-signed.

FWIW, I don't think Simmons would be getting the gaudy offensive numbers had he come to UK as he is getting at LSU. The reason is that at Kentucky, Simmons would have to learn team concept (something some of our guys still struggle with) and share the ball. At LSU he's "the man" offensively. Also - there would be so much work on defense here - that offensive numbers tend to fall off for a bit until they "get it."
Hoping what I'm trying to get across here makes sense. I guess J Jones is doing what he can within his limitations as a coach and just letting Simmons do his thing.
But if he's doing this well now - how would he develop with a coach who's been there/done that?

Ah. Worthwhile distinction to make.

I was talking about with Jones on the sidelines. I think AD instead of Simmons for Jones would clean up a lot of his coach's mistakes and they'd have 2 losses or so.

With Cal coaching AD, Blakeny, Hornsby, Quarterman, and Victor (latter 3 being both talented and upperclassmen), I'm trying to find a game on their schedule they could've lost.

Cal wouldn't lose a home game with that roster, so that leaves @ Houston and @ Vandy as the only 2 decent away teams and a neutral game with Marquette. Vandy and Houston have both gotten their wins versus nobodies and lost every decent opponent.

Marquette has been fine, but uninspiring, and Wojo will probably be a strong coach some day, but it's hard to see him beating Cal in an even game at this point.

So I think Cal would have zero losses, with the Marquette game being the one reasonable loss possibility.

But man, looking through their schedule makes me even more embarrassed for Simmons/Jones.. the kid should've thought harder about that one - they have no excuse to have 5 Ls this season.

I do not agree. White was a better shooter, but not near the passer, nor rebounder. Not even close.

Blakney is playing like garbage, poor mans archie goodwin, Quaterman and Hornsy are the ones you have to watch. Of course Blakeny will now shoot like steph curry....

Media thinking this guy puts up 40 points 20 rebounds on us tonight. It ain't happening. Tonight Simmons will face shot blocking for the 1st time probably ever. We shall see

Agreed. I've never understood the "I'm not impressed" crowd when it comes to guys like Simmons.

People were saying the same thing about Okafor last year.
Agree with this 100% Simmons is the best of the crop this year, as to the comparison to Davis thru 12 games, we didn't know how good Davis was at this point in time, truth be told we didn't know that till he got to the NBA.

Defensively Simmons is not where Davis was at this point and probably won't be at years end, he is a different type of player.

Simmons is a fantastic player. Fun to watch and will be difficult to contain. But worry too much about him and Hornsby and some of the others can get hot and shoot lights out too.

Give Simmons 3-4 years in the NBA and then you can start the Anthony Davis comparisons.
