According to a 24/7 article.

I really think Coen is/has been the missing link to our program taking the next step, that being a consistent 9-10 win program instead of a 7-8 win program. We’re not there yet, and the new SEC and NIL only stands to make it harder, but I really feel our two coordinators, gives us a competitive advantage unlike UK has had….well ever….in FB.

Here’s to keeping them another 5 years. Cheers.

For the first time in my remembrance we have two coordinators who would make great HCs should our HC move on. That kind of talent is unheard of at UK, especially when you consider we may have the best HC in school’s history.

The fact that Jon Sumrall had such a great first year at Troy should give UK fans comfort as to succession plans should the unthinkable happen and Stoops move to another job. I say that with the firm belief that this is the job Mark wants and his family loyalty to UK is the real deal.

Fans and recruits should take notice.

I really like Sumrall too but let's remember Neal Brown was highly successful there too and when he moved to the P5 he's been way in over his head.

Bonus points for use of the word remembrance.

Unless remembrance fails me, that's the first time I've seen it used in 25+ yrs of posting on message boards.

Unthinkable, you are on commedy central

Coen is a viable NFL head coach candidate who's currently a college OC. I get the spirit of the argument, but he's not a missing link per se. He's just an incredible talent we were fortunate to ever get at all, let alone get again.

The only downside at all is, like last time, how long he will be here. It won't be long. Ya I know he says he loves it, and he probably does, but he also just left us for the rams; and he will get similarly prestigious opportunities again (probably even during this season). Hopefully he will go back to the NFL rather than to another college team.

I believe Coach Coen is likely to stay for the duration of his current UK contract. Any coach can leave at anytime. One never knows. But 2022 was painful for Coen in LA and he is making a whole lot of money at UK now. Success and wealth are a lot more enjoyable than taking weekly crap from the press in a big city for NFL coordinator pay. He has a young family and I suspect he will stick around for a while.
