May I ask a Basketball question w/o “doing” the other board?

I looked at our men’s RB schedule and spotted no U of L?

Did they not play this year?

How can you follow UKFB and that closely, Hack, and UKBB not at all?
Can't speak for Hack, but personally, life is too short to deal with UKBB anxiety. Extreme ups, downs, miserable/moaning UKBB fans, little to no connection to current players... I haven't really cared about UKBB since 2015. Loved WCS and the personalities on that team. Loved Harris, Liggins, Stevenson, Patterson, and the rest of the 09-10 team. Harrelson and Liggins in 10-11. Miller being the glue guy in 2012 (fave UKBB player of all time). You get the idea. We don't get to know most of them over the years or watch them develop and form a connection to the team.

Part of why I love UKFB is that when folks start showing out, we've had years of interviews and work and I know the names. We've watched them learn and grow as a fanbase. Plus, the spiteful football fans are manageable...

Anywho... Anymore, UK basketball recruits just blend together. I literally couldn't tell you what year Fox was, Adebayo either, SGA, etc. One year? Meh. My heart couldn't take 40+ years of watching UK freshmen figure out how to play. It's annoying and frustrating as hell, and not something I care to watch. Not out of spite, but for mental self-preservation.

Will say that I appreciate this year's team. Oscar has a great personality and I've gotten to know Brooks and even Mintz.

May also come down to the fact that all my memories of UKFB with my dad are pleasant and fun. Even if we were getting stomped.

All my memories of UKBB with my dad are of crap flying around the living room and the two of us complaining and yelling about Tubby ball, Gillespie, or the Calipari freshmen making huge freshmen mistakes.

Disjointed response, I know, but I don't feel like writing this into a thesis. 😂

I have progressively given it up over the last 5 or 6 years. Can’t keep up with players names, etc.

I had been a football fan, primarily since the 70’s, but used to watch basketball and even had nosebleed season tics for three or four years, I think Tubby’s last season and a couple of Billy Clyde’s seasons, but went to less than half the games.

JPF and the rest said it for me as well. I used to be gung-ho on BB once Senior Day had passed, only taking time for the bowl game from my basketball following. Tubby changed that. Cal cemented it into a "if there's nothing else to do or watch, I'll watch it" kind of thing.

Used to watch every basketball game, every year, and travel for the post-season tournaments. I don't even watch the tournaments like I used to. There's no real KENTUCKY brand anymore. There's no mix of hometown heroes and national stars. There's no development. There's just Cal and his team. They don't seem to care if anyone watches them or not, because UK is just a bus stop.

Seems that way anyway. I miss the Bogans, Daniels, and Hayes types, which Oscar seems to have every bit the heart of, so I've been wanting to watch him play. I want a team of OSCARs. Maybe someday we'll get back to that type of team

Don't hate UKBB or Cal(Find him annoying to listen to). A lot like JP said, just don't like the product anymore. Don't watch any basketball, NCAA or NBA.
That's a big part of it too. I can't explain why, but college basketball just isn't something I enjoy watching anymore. Even watching UK blow UNC out of the water isn't all that fun. I don't know if it's refs, 1nD, fans, or what. Something about watching basketball feels more like a chore than entertainment. The game is just boring, anymore.

I've literally never cared to watch the NBA. I feel like college ball has adopted whatever the NBA did to "ruin" the sport. I have the same apathy towards CBB now that I've had for pro ball for years.

Never was as big on NBA as I was NCAA but did enjoy the 90's players. MJ and Pippen, Stockten and the Mailman, I've always kind of enjoyed watching the guys at the top sport, in most sports. Watching what AI could do with the basketball was awe inspiring at times. The Spurs were methodical and worthy of respect, hardly ever made a mistake. I know some don't like that athletes actually have an opinion, that stuff doesn't bother me at all, if the athletes knew me, they likely wouldn't like mine either. I pretty much stopped watching NBA over Lebron, don't care for him, and didn't care for his super team garbage.

Agree in principle with this post. I've always preferred football as a sport, much of which game from growing up with FSU grad parents and my father was a letterman there. After moving to Lex in middle school, I discovered basketball for the first time. After graduating from UK, my friends and I used to rent suites at the SEC tourney every year and I went to many elite 8s and FFs. Now that the football team is finally good, the basketball team has nearly fallen off my radar. I record every game and watch most of them, though I don't usually watch the Winthrops etc to completion. Plus, it's worth noting, that I often have a hard time recalling basketball players' names in conversation with other UK fans. I'm not anti-one and done, by any means. I just love football so much more that I will watch a good SEC football game over UK playing a crap opponent in basketball. Crap opponents get recorded and saved for later.

I’ve had the exact opposite experience with the NBA and college basketball. I’ve watched more NBA over the last few years and it’s been amazing how much higher quality it is. It makes watching college games tough for me. I struggle to watch a college game if it’s not a UK game, but I’ve found myself to be missing more UK games over the years. The college product is really lacking in my eyes.

I have season tix to UK football and love watching other P5 college football on TV. I will record other games on game day so I can watch multiple games, or catch the ones I missed while at the Kroger.

As for BB, I really only watch UK. I may watch a few minutes of another high profile matchup, but not often.

I watch and/or listen to every UKFB and MBB game that I can, live whenever possible but recorded whenever necessary. UK aside, I prefer the game of football to basketball, but I don’t generally have a lot of time to watch sports. I will watch the last few minutes of almost any game in almost any sport if the outcome is competitive. I love March Madness for that reason. I’ll sometimes save a load of laundry for folding during a football game. I watched the majors when Tiger was competitive. Other than that, I love it when I happen to catch a highlight reel, Sportcenter Top10 sort of thing. But that’s more and more rare.

It’s been a a few years since I’ve seen a CBB game without Kentucky in it. It just isn’t fun to watch anymore. However, when UK does play, I’m in it for the duration of the day, just like UK football. (Pre-game radio, Leach+Pratt, post-game). I’m such a dork that the highlight of my night last Saturday was hearing Keith Elkins’ voice (not sure if he ever did UK football post-game wrap-up).

Completely summed up the last 40 years of my life there too JP. Have always been a die hard of both but always enjoyed FB a little more. But even in the old days I wouldnt miss a tip off for basketball when they were on radio or TV. In the few years I rarely make a tip off and go a lot of games without catching but a few minutes even on TV. Still get a little fired up tourney time though, and I echo your thoughts on Oscar and Co. They are refreshing to watch and great kids.

I am a big fan of both. The best way I know to explain the difference of importance to me is for basketball I will not make it a point to be home to watch, except for a very few games each year, being happy to DVR and watch later. When we are playing football I am either in front of the TV or at Kroger field watching the game as it happens. No other plans for Saturdays in the Fall.

I couldn't have said better, or worse as it may be. GO CATS!!

I just posted on the bball board how boring basketball is other than uk games. I don't even care to watch it until March other than uk games. Even some of those games I half pay attention to like the ooc cupcakes. I do the same for our football ooc other than ul. I'll have the games on but may do other things around the house.

i love and follow both

i do avoid all message boards when either our FB or BB team takes a bad loss
the BMG crowd is just more negativity then i care to engage in

You’re just yanking my chain now.
Seriously, my brother told me about a player who broke an Arena record for rebounds by several, like by 5 or 6!

He and I rode to Orlando, and he talked some basketball. I had yet to hear that U of L had been cancelled, and didn’t think to ask him about that.

Yeah, yeah, next you’ll hear talk about electric cars and talking home robots that buy all your groceries. I ain’t fall off of your turnip truck.

I'm still fairly passionate about UK basketball but it isn't all consuming like it used to be. I don't really watch basketball games besides ours. I'm pretty much all baseball and football these days. Hopefully what made UK basketball special finds its way back.

I graduated from UK in 78, the same year that Givens, Robey, Phillips, Macy, Lee and company won it all. I have not been back to Rupp Arena since, but have seen many games on TV, including this year. I am a fairly casual UK BB fan. However, I have been to several UK FB games in the intervening years and and am a diehard member of Stoops Troops. I have not missed a UK FB game on TV in years, especially since I can now get the SEC network here in Indianapolis.

-i pay attention to basketball...but ive missed multiple games over the last few years to do other stuff: socialize, league or "pick up" tennis, etc. That *never* happens with ukfb.

-that said...i *love* this years team. Seems like a great bunch of kids. Mix of older kids and one freshman superstar...kinda old school in that light. Very unselfish play...good passing team.

-Oscar is(to my knowledge) a top shelf young man...and a helluva big.

I’m not football only but I am football first, have been for many years now. Cal’s way of running the program is not for me. I still watch the games and root for the Cats, but I cannot take the turn style our basketball program has turned into.
