Hello HOB. I'll be following along with the CMS radio show tonight per usual and sharing the major talking points here on the HOB for those of you who may not be able to listen to it live. Show just now getting under way at 6 ET...
* A difficult team meeting today, rough watching the film, but accountability had to occur. Did not get angry. Talked straight, though, very direct. Solutions-based more than singling guys out and finger-pointing. When you put things up on the screen in front of the whole team that are inexcusable, they understand.
* The play at the end of the half that killed them (first down after the nice run got them out from the goal line) was not the play that was supposed to be run, but BVG thought he saw something that was there due to the look he got, and the other guys weren't on the same page with him.
* Stoops notes that he wants to make sure people know he's not just tossing all the blame on offense and special teams. Says the defense had a chance to get off the field an not allow points on all four Vandy scoring drives. It's all of us.
* Caller asks if Stoops sees Brad White becoming a head coach some day... Stoops says yes, but jokes that maybe he sees some of the things that he has to deal with and thinks twice about it. Notes that he's very happy where he is now.
* Nobody seems to be calling the show... or they're heavily screening. Hard to tell.
* Asked about what drills they can do to eliminate some of the penalties, Stoops says it goes back to the way you practice. They preach being clean all the time. Fair criticism, though. Still doesn't know how they can be the least penalized team in the SEC and come out and do that.
* At the end of today's practice, Stoops challenged the players for consistency thru the entire week. Thought they did that during the open date week. But toward the end of game week, he sensed that something wasn't right. Not sure why the focus dropped off.
* Caller asks Stoops if he thinks recruiting will be hurt by how this season is going. Stoops says, no, it's going well. Had to step out of a meeting today to take another commitment. "Got a big phone call today." Says player will come out publicly soon. Doing some things in the portal as well.
* This past week will bother him probably into the offseason, Stoops says, but right now he's got to put all is focus on what are we going to do to fix it.
* Stoops revisits the Jamarion Wilcox comments from today, notes that he thinks the young guy has a really bright future.
* Stoops says he's hopeful we'll see RB Chip Trayanum this week. OT Courtland Ford is also closer, could give some welcomed depth on O-Line.
