Rare does ole Neue start a thread here but Mark Gottfried..........I swear the quality of SEC Coaching must have risen ten fold the moment he left Alabama.

I don't know about the quality of coaching, but the co-eds at UA felt a little safer.

Made the Big Dance the past few seasons with a sweet 16 run last year, which is pretty good for NC State. Looks like he is struggling this year. He seemed like just an average coach at Bama. Are there rumblings in NC that he might be fired?

My Wolfpack pals celebrated when Gottfried arrived. I just grinned and said: "Mark is like wet wood. Lots of smoke but no fire." Now they're praying for his funeral.

One of those coaches that did just enough to make it hard to fire him, but not enough to make you want to keep him. He always gets pretty good talent, but underachieves with it.

Eh, it's the SEC. Gottfried was one of the best coaches in this conference. He won a game in the NCAA tournament so they should put a plaque of him up in conference headquarters or something.

I can't get a handle on Gottfried. He was replaced by Anthony Grant, who I swore was an upgrade hire. But man did he flame out. He gets hired by NC State, which I thought was an odd promotion after getting fired. But damn if he didn't make some hay. Can't really complain versus what they're used to over the past twenty years.

In his defense he has been in two sweet sixteens at NC State since 2013.

It will be interesting to see what Cat does after this season. They don't have any seniors on the team this year but their only committed recruit is Dennis Smith Jr. Right now Barber is projected as a very late 2nd round pick to not drafted at all.

He's had the talent of a top 15 team if not top 10 team at N.C. State a couple of years and yet they are always on the bubble. They should of had a team capable of being top 15 team this year if he had just recruited another decent guard to help Barber. But like always with Got-Fired..... they still would of screwed up.
