Male QB Davis Mattingly Commits to UK

I also found this to go along with this.

Mattingly's favorite passing target at Male was junior wide receiver
Keion Wakefield, who is one of the state's top prospects for the class
of 2016. Wakefield has a scholarship offer from Kentucky.

Why are you stunned?? He's a lifelong UK fan and he's going to be a walk on.

Looks to have decent size and pretty good arm strength...he will put on about 12-15 lbs of good muscle over the course of the next couple years...

Quality depth is a great thing to have...

hope he sticks around and gets his fair opportunity some day...

in all honesty, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that he could see snaps as an upperclassmen...

at the very least he could serve as a solid back up to Barker down the road, and may even get a shot if DB does well and opts to go pro early...

It's a nice thought that he will grow into a depth chart role, but I hope for UK's sake that he's recruited over again and again.

I don't know, that sounds pretty crazy. A walk on getting "recruited over".

The point is
having a fourth QB for practice
getting a player out of Male in L'ville
he will be a walk-on with a chance to a scholly as avail
he will help recruit L'ville for us in 2016 (and hopefully for good, no more Card revolving door)
im sure their are many more positive points
still haven't thought of a negative, the cost of a uniform?

Way to welcome a young man who is coming to UK for free. Good land some rude people hide behind computer screens. Kid is a real nice player who plays against the best competition this State has to offer...plays in same system as UK & is 6'4" makes quick reads and throws a good long ball. Who knows what will happen but to cut him down on his night he commits..what a turd

His coach says he is a very accurate passer, quick decision maker and a hard nosed competitor. His dad went to UK and his sister is there now.

He put up some nice passing stats playing against some of the best HS teams in KY. Glad to have him on board as a walk on.

Welcome aboard Mr. Mattingly, I hope his commitment helps with our recruiting Male in the future. I can see no downside to him being a preferred walk-on.

Welcome to BBN and StoopsTroops Davis!!! WHY NOT? Compete for a starting spot at QB at the best up and coming College Football Program!!! Go Cats!

Some people here are very ungrateful. It's a little disgusting. This is a kid who wants to play at UK enough to just come to school for free, have to compete against highly ranked QB's out of high school, and earn his role, and some of you boot him down before he ever puts on the uniform.
This is not the kind of program where we just shrug our shoulders at in-state recruits who could potentially help us. Figure that out, you'll be much more satisfied in the end.

These are the kind of guys TT gets to run their air-raid. Never heard of 'em but they show up and are a) accurate and b) quick decision makers. Not saying how he'll do but those are skills needed in the air-raid.

So because people have a different opinion we are chastised? The comment that he could potentially help us is wrong if it gets to the point that he is playing significant minutes it would be a bad sign.

Now hold on fellas. You're mistaking my post. I'm glad to have him. It's good for the program. My previous post was in response to Trueblue who said that it's possible that he becomes the 2nd string QB or becomes a DB who leaves early for the NFL. We all want UK to be a much better program. In better programs a walk-on is lucky to eventually get a scholly.....or play some special teams. They rarely become back-ups or leave early for the NFL.

It was worded a bit confusing, but he's not saying this walk-on QB will switch to DB and leave early for the NFL, he's saying he could see him getting meaningful snaps if DB (Drew Barker) leaves early. In either case you're right, if the kid plays for us it's gonna be on neal downs and hand offs up the gut, but his point wasn't that he'll ever be NFL caliber at any position much less as a corner (I think). Good to have him, nice to have a guy capable of helping work out WR's after practice and a guy who's there in an all else fails, everyone's injured, gonna play a backup WR as QB situation... but preferred walk on or not, a walk-on QB has the toughest path to the field IMHO. Tougher roe to hoe than a FB or a guy like Mosier who's massive but raw.

Really like the move. He has good size and looks like he has a strong arm. Reportedly, he's a UK fan. Comes from a good school.

Don't understand why some are making negative comments. Guess because he's a walk-on they've decided he's not any good. Need to remember that Aaron Rodgers had zero scholarship offers when he was a high school senior and he had to go the Juco route not because of academics. If the same Aaron Rodgers was walking on UK today, there would be people making negative comments. Obviously, it's unlikely that Mattingly is the next Aaron Rodgers but give him a chance.

It appears he throws a good deep ball without really setting his feet.He seems to be doing it all arm,and having to wind-up to do it. He looks as though he has some filling out to do,seems a bit skinny.

Male coach tweeted UK had been at the school four times in the last six weeks. They certainly see something in him.

I'm sure they do,I didn't mean to imply that the kid doesn't have potential, but there are factors that keep d-1 schools from beating down his door at this time

After watching the video, the thing that I was most impressed about were the quick decisions and I also liked how he stood in the pocket in the face of the rush!

Are those factors the two you mentioned couple of posts up >>>> ? Are there more to mention?

Those were the two that I thought I saw in the film, there are some reasons that he doesn't have more d-1 offers.I hope he turns out to be a valuable player for us.

You never know he could turn out to be a monster, in any event welcome young man and I wish you the best.

Why can't he help us in the future? I can put up with folks chastising each other better then I can an adult who chastises a kid. You need to think about that.

Just like when Jarod Polson was playing significant minutes on the basketball team. It would be a bad sign if this kid is our QB as an upperclassmen. Take him for what he is. A big blue fan that would rather be a walkon than go to EKU or Murray who also happens to have a classmate that is a big time recruit for UK.

Drew barker leave early??? He's yet to play a game, been a trouble maker getting into trouble, so I think your expectations need to go away until DB proves he's a leader.

Wonder if this kid knew about the bar fight and thought maybe there will be a scholarship open before too long and maybe a few less QB's on the roster also?

The way things are going at UK there might be a SS open for him before the dust settles. The kid played QB in Louisville against the toughest football talent in Kentucky High School football. I like that he is a UK fan. I say that at least give the kid a preferred walk on and if he proves he deserves it give him a SS this fall if one is available.

Give him two SSs if he can bring a couple of those Male WRs with him. Especially number 11.

Lotta odd comments in this thread.

He is a walk-on. Not costing a scholarship. Is a UK fan. Plays at Louisville Male HS. Is a QB - we need bodies just to practice at this point. Oh yeah, may be an in to his junior WR Wakefield who is SEC quality.

No downside, only upside.

Welcome to UK young man, great to have you as a Wildcat.
