Assume this is due to our Final 4 Run and 38-0 Record but honestly I do not remember a quieter spring practice at Kentucky !

Doesn't help when you have no BlueWhite game, close off most scrimmages. Pretty piss poor job of selling the program to the fan base this year.

Construction can do that but you got to take the good with the bad.

Yea it really sucks that we are not getting a lot of info, but does it really matter...I'm as big a fb guy as you will find and I'm just hoping things are going well...With that being said , Matt Jones said Stoops jumped on him about not being to a practice yet
smokin.r191677.gif
...MJ told him a lot was going on right now and said that Stoops just smiled and said he knew...

Other than Jen Smith, media presence at practice has been pathetic. Most sites, including this one, only regurgitate the UK releases as their "practice reports."

Are they doing construction to the practice fields and indoor training center? Nope. The construction to CWS has zero impact on covering spring practice.

Basketball season has come to a disappointing end. It is time for football to take center stage.

I think the women's softball team is pretty entertaining. Quite the crowd yesterday on TV.

I think it has more to do with how Spring Practice has been stop and Go. We practice a few days then take a week off spring break. I don't know, but I would think teaching is better with consecutive weeks of practice. But I believe in Stoops. I like where we are headed. It will just take time to get there.

Vast majority of teams have not practiced during spring break.

I wonder why we just don't start Spring practice after spring break?? The weather would be better.

I've wondered this too. Maybe the last week or 2 of the practice would run into finals?

Since the weather is bad in the fall, good weather shouldn't be a factor in deciding when we practice in the spring. Maybe with 1 caveat. I have lived in central Kentucky all my life except for military service, and I have seen a lot of severe storms and tornados in late April. It is probably better to get spring practice over with before the start of the Kentucky monsoon season.

Last yr's spring practice had amazing coverage with basically the same weather.

Grow up folks, Undefeated and historic basketball season heading into the final four and construction leading to no spring game have bottled up football news. It is probably not a big deal.

Is Spring practice still going on this Sat? If so is it open and what time. We will be in Lex for a horse show and may swing over if time permits if practice is still going on. Thanks.

Lou

Basketball certainly had something to do with it but the start and stop schedule made it difficult to stay engaged.

JMO but CMS needs to open them up and have weekday sessions in the late afternoon rather than the morning. I'm just not sure anyone does anything in the spring that needs to be kept under wraps. When the fans can see what is happening it spurs interest and discussion.

Peace

Media coverage, both traditional and new has been pathetic. Most talked about story is a 3rd string DT practicing a few snaps at fullback.

Am very surprised that so little talk of Barker v. Towles in the media has occurred. Very little discussion of who is going to be the QB.

A bit OT, by way of an interesting contrast, I happened to be in Ann Arbor yesterday, which was the day of their spring football game. Half the town was wearing Maize and Blue, and OTOH very little talk, or even people in bars watching the Final Four, even though Mich State was in it. Just not anywhere near the same kind of big deal up there, like it is here.

I think it safe to assume that as the incumbent, Towles is our starter, regardless of any talk of open competition for the job this spring and into the fall. On the other hand, if he falls down on the job, this season IS one in which I expect Barker might be brought on in early relief, and perhaps supplant him, if he shines. All of this said, you have to recognize the difference between the unit struggling, and the QB struggling, if we are not moving and scoring the football. Towles will sit only if the staff believes Barker stands a reasonable chance of producing better outcomes.

Kentucky basketball hasn't just overwhelmed UK spring practice. They pretty much dominated all sports coverage in March (LOL).

No doubt, the lack of a spring game doesn't help.

GBB!!!

Thought Stoops comments today re RS OL was underwhelming. Did mention Krok's been sick/hurt, mentioning Richardson and LaRubbio in passing. Disappointing.

Whoever brought up the start and stop aspect of the practice schedule with days off in between made a good point. That probably slowed down news as well.

If they have to "sell the program to the fans" then those fans are they ones that are piss poor.

Stoops said the reason for the stop start schedule this spring was done so they could be more physical in practice. When you haven't played in months guys get banged up fast. He said it also gives them an opportunity to learn more from the film between practices. I know we as fans want every detail and to be allowed into every practice but most coaches don't want the distraction

also, putting spring break in the middle of camp let the players work on what was installed early on (on their own). so they did the installs and ran some reps then take a week off and everyone can study film and playbooks so that the last half of camp they are at a better place (or so the thinking is). quite a few schools use that schedule.

I think the bball run did have alot to do with it. So much media involvement in it this year. Also, sprin practice started a little earlier this year it seems.

All in all though, its been covered in detail throughout.....i have read daily reports on this website after each practice...interviews each time. Articles i nthe herald leader throughout the week and on weekends they have a big football notebook. I have seen practice gallery photos a couple of times and KSR has a football report often. Recruiting is covered in detail everyday on this site with updates on visitors and so on.

I think spring ball has just been quiet from the fans bc of the basketball run. The lack of a spring game doesnt really create that buzz but its what it is this year.....Stoops addressed that on public interviews before spring ball started.

They did have the open practice over the weekend...which was nice. Those that are bashing the administration (par for the course on the Lair) what did you want them to do? Call your cell phone everyday or have pick up games in your local park?

I'm glad things were close to the vest and spread out schedulwise. The coaching staff should implement the best practice techniques and timeframe needed to adjust the youngsters and install offensive coordinator terminology. Who gives a crap about the media hype and fans who show up to say we had more fans than uofl at a scrimmage:.

Winning is the best cure for stink.
