Louisville Duke Carolina all with as many or more titles

If Carolina wins tomorrow you will be correct. It would be a surprising stat. Be thankful he's here or we may have nada.

Rigged in the sense that improperly recruited and/or enrolled players were used to obtain those titles (except for Duke...there's no evidence to implicate them in that time frame, of which I'm aware). Rigged again in the NCAA has been complicit in allowing those programs to continue to win and claim these titles.

I dont' belive it's rigged in the sense that a bunch of good ol' boys are having a secluded discussion in which something is said to the effect of "let's let Kentucky win this year, then we'll let Louisville win the next year"..I don't think that discussion happens. In that discussion, I don't think Kentucky would ever get a seat at the table. Cal-and his system-have challenged the very structure of the game and college athletics, and he has no shortage of enemies because of it.

In terms of Vegas and the refs, I'm just not as sure. Scary sums of money pass through a lot of hands. It'd be hard awfully hard to believe that over time, someone doesn't corner someone else and say.."hey...how would you like to get in on a little something?"

That being said...i believe "Higginsgate" was a one man operation, where one egomaniac decided he'd take over a game and prove a point to an adversary. Sort of like when the mob moves in, murders your family, and then says "now what are you going to do about it". UNC and Duke get a shitload of calls, and I'll never argue that they don't, but those calls are probably generated by the "halo effect" created by the positive spin those programs get from the media.

I'm struggling with the point?

I'm pretty sure I get his point. Other teams (and at least one of them is far inferior to UK) have had as much success (if not more) than we have during the same time frame. I'm not talking head to head matchups or total wins or where our road ended in the tournament. I'd say he's talking NC's and while I like Cal and I don't want him to leave I feel like UK basketball will remain a blue blood program well into the future with or without him. I think as a UK fan our expectations are Final Fours and NC's. I'm on the Cal / UK train but the OP's point is fair and interesting.

So, what is the point?

The only thing i take from it is that uk might still be sitting on 7 nc's if not for cal.
Is that the point?

It just goes to show you that the "NCAA Tournament Champion" is not usually the team that was the best throughout the season. Why do you think UNC hangs banners for finishing the regular season ranked #1 in the polls? Dean Smith had all the talent for years and couldn't win the tournament. It's hard to win 6 straight games after a 34 game season. Look at all of Bill Selfs great teams that haven't won. This year he had the best team at the end of the season and lost in the Elite 8 just like UK did.

Nope. You know what the point is. You just don't accept anybody else's opinions. He's not necessarily wrong or right but he damn sure is entitled to his opinion. No need to be a jerk but go on and be one if it makes you feel good.

I still don't get what opinion he's throwing out. i agree opinion entitlement is a right.
No need to call me a jerk just because you don't approve of my innocent and respectful comment. jerk.

agree with this. unc & duke are darlings of the sport who get preferential treatment from refs, and higgins has a personal vendetta against cal. last sunday, these two things converged

duke, especially, has also benefited from being given an easy path to the final four. best example was the wall/cousins team that faced the BE regular season and tourney champion in the regional final, while the #2 seed in duke's region was a BE team that had lost 4 out of 5

WVU was not the BE regular season winner. Syracuse was by 2 games.

I think you know what his opinion is but if somehow you really don't get it I sincerely apologize and I mean that. His opinion is that Louisville (our most hated rival), and Carolina and Duke (huge rivals as well) are doing as well or better than Cal / UK during Cal's tenure with regard to NC's. It's a fair opinion but so many on here get mad when anyone questions Cal or the OAD concept. I'm good with Cal and OAD's but I'm objective enough to see both sides. Many in this board aren't. Make sense ?

There are some overly sensitive posters reguarding cal. You can't even make a joke without them losing their wad.

It's valid. When Cal came in he drought crazy expectations. He's capable of more, should have more, and is too good to be sitting on one title in his career. At the same time he's perfect for UK and we'd be up shts creek without him. It just goes both ways.

That is 100% true. Thank you very much for understanding the situation and explaining it. Excellent post.

If this tournament doesn't show you experience is an important thing to have,I'm not sure you will ever get it

You're way off base. i'm not disputing that.
It's not opinion when you just post obvious facts that every fan is aware of.

I'm fine with 1 title, 2 title games, 4 final 4's, and 6 elite 8's in 8 years. I do agree however that we should have found another title along the way. We have just shit the bed at a few of our chances, and it pisses me off. But like I said, the run we've been on speaks for itself. Wouldn't trade Cal for anyone.

I'm not, and many other aren't either, based on talent that has come through. I know, I'm a troll.

I'd agree had most of the talent stayed longer than a year. Or we can recruit more 4 year guys and try to win another way. I think I'm okay.

I'm not off base at all but all you want to do is argue with me. Sorry that I ruffled your feathers. Peace.
