I've read where the renovation will make Commonwealth a louder stadium. Why?

I heard the new turf was less sound absorbing than the old grass, guess that could be true.I would also think the glass in the sky boxes would allow sound to reflect rather than escape, just a guess.

Has a lot to do with the sky boxes, and the blue accoustics on the sides of them. The higher the stadium surrounding the field is, the more sound that gets trapped inside.

the fact that the stadium actually has exterior walls now is supposed to help hold some of the sound in.

I think the product on the field might also contribute to more decibels being emitted. [banana]

The answer is all of above. A note on the suites. Not only are they higher, but straight up, as opposed to the upper levels before which went up and out. More noise goes down. It's going to get quieter outside, louder inside.

And to the point about better product on the field. I also predict the louder stadium will lead to more fan participation. I think our fans will want to keep it loud. At Seattle, they have good acoustics, and their fans take pride in making it loud. Hearing our effort will lead to more effort. I'd like to see commonwealth put a decibel meter on the video board. Visual cues would goad even more.

I was thinking someone mentioned "sound reflectors" toward the top of the stadium that were supposed to "deflect" the noise "going out" to "going back in?" Or was that just a suggestion by someone?

Autzen Stadium seats less than 60,000 and I have been to many games there. The noise generated in that place because of the way the stadium is designed is awesome. It's the design of the stadium, which the press box/suites should help. Here is a quote from Lloyd Carr about Autzen:

"Autzen's 59,000 strong make the Big House collectively sound like a pathetic whimper. It’s louder than any place I’ve ever been, and that includes The Swamp at Florida, The Shoe in Columbus, and Death Valley at Louisiana State. Autzen Stadium is where great teams go to die."

I would love to see UK incorporate some sort of overhang in the future to trap the noise in the stadium.

There will be 6000 fewer seats but since the students didn't show up for most games anyhow, it won't be 6000 fewer fans.

Hey....I'm tired of the slams on the students for not coming to games....They are doing important stuff like playing mario brothers, metal gear solid, call of duty, madden 16 ( for the real athletes in the bunch).
