As great as Kevin Durrant is, he's probably the worse thing to happen to the 6'10 post player. With the sucess Durrant is having, now it seems every kid 6'10 or bigger wants to be a guard and stay as far away from the post as possible. I don't think they get what a freak KD is and how rare that type of game is. Not saying this kid can't do it. I have never even watched a youtube clip. Just speaking in general. How messed up things are becoming when a kid can grow up being a duke fan. Adults need to be there to explain how uncool that is and not to admit this in public.

So true. I really believe that's what happened with Jonathan Issac. He kept saying "I want to play guard, I don't want to be a forward." You're 6'9" for crap sake. Cal's best asset is helping kids raise their stock. Everyone knows Isaac can shoot the 3, but to be a complete player, at that size, you have gain some strength and to learn to play inside a little too. But he went where they told him what he wanted to hear and won't make him do that and therefore, he won't raise his stock. You'd think a kid would pay attention to a coach who's been raising players' stock and getting them in the league but you can't win em all.

Anyway, hopefully Gabriel is smarter than that.

It really goes back further than Durant, but Durant has definitely escalated it. What those kids too often seem to miss is that Durant still makes his presence felt on the interior (career 7 rebounds per game, and over 8 FT attempts per game). Durant is not a post player, but he still makes a ton of plays in the lane and around the rim.

A lot of these 6'9"- 6'10" kids have next to 0 ball handling ability, which makes playing the kind of face-up game that Durant has impossible for them. And they need to realize that Durant doesn't just take 3's, he's usually the best 3 point shooter on the floor. If you're 6'10", can handle the ball like a PG, and shoot as well as any 2 guard, by all means, play like Durant. If you can't do that, then realize that trying to be Durant might be to your detriment.

With Kennard, i really believe if we had a normal coach and not a recruiting beast, he would have followed his dreams and be playing for us. What i mean by that is if we had a coach that recruited like every other school except duke and ku, bringing in good but not great recruits at his spot in the lineup every single year, he wouldn't be worried about being recruited over by nba type of studs every single year. With all that said, i think i'll take our current coach and the way he does things over one kid who is a pretty good player. Just thinking out loud for a moment.

who knows if we get him but just b/c someone says they grew up liking a school doesn't mean crap . Hell I remember a pic of Kennard in his room and it was totally UK'd out . But he wanted to go play for the Rat and that's that.
Id love to see this pic
