This is going to become regular in CFB, unfortunately, and something I hope the NCAA does something about but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I still don't like it because it will bite us in the ass. For example, what if Barion Brown becomes one of the top WR's in the country down the road and USC or Alabama wants him and all we can offer is 800k and they can offer 2M or more
I don’t think it’s much different than before. It would happen more now regardless of NIL since they don’t sit out to transfer. On the bright side they sign so many blue chips it won’t happen often to UK.

But I think this is a good point too about it being too Wild West because the NCAA didn’t plan ahead because they thought the courts would save them.

UK tried to get him too:

How do reckon that went down, with UK and USC. Those two schools looked at the top performers from last year and reached out to see if they were for sale for next year. Or, someone in the players camp is putting feelers out there to see if a school is interested for services next year. Just like players with high draft expectations skipping bowls, that started out as a few players a year, now it's as common brushing your teeth in the morning. I think this stuff is headed the same direction.

I know there was cheating before NIL, I'm not totally naive. What doesn't square with me, make sense to me. If this is no different than it was before, everything is just out in the open now. Why did Sark, Kiffen, and Helton have trouble getting talent to USC the way Riley has the last six months. All of those guys can coach, Riley is probably the best of the bunch but not by this wide of a margin. NIL and free agent transfers have totally changed the landscape of college football.

Could have been both. I imagine before Coen left $800k looked strong but I think he’s a west coast kid and playing for Riley and two million is an insurmountable pull for anyone not Alabama.

It’s also the free transfer rule. Sitting out a year really disincentivized transferring. I think it’s that and NIL combined.

I'll say again.......just because our guys don't brag as much as the big mouths in Knoxville, don't assume our movers & shakers aren't doing what needs to be done in the NIL universe.

I've zero doubt we put in strong bids to WR kids shoping for new destinations after the season. I think T. Robinson will prove a great addition, kid from Bama as well. And we did what was necessary 2021 class to land Key & Barion Brown. Does anyone doubt that we had to out bid Mich St to land Goodwin?

I'm not surprised that USC might offer him $1-2 million. If A&M can spend over $30 Million on a recruiting class anything is possible.

If the kid or his reps are putting out feelers it ain't tampering to put in an offer!

Probably not a team in the country not doing this, including mine, but it's not ethically correct to do it, no one wants it done to them. Miami and FSU are tampering with our guys like crazy right now.

Riley is a snake, too bad Coach O doesn't work for Pitt, that crazy mfer would go see him, not call him up.

There has been literally thousands and thousands of players in the portal since it started and I know of ZERO charges of tampering form the toothless tiger of the NCAA ... not even HINTING at anything illegal. I'm feeling sure they will have a press release around 2031 about it.

Somke 'em if ya got 'em, boys.

Is it just me that feels like Lincoln Riley is the new "punk" of college football.

He's certainly willing to play the game, as the rules are written today. He rebuilt that roster through the portal and players he was recruiting to OU.

Now Satterfield is throwing tampering charges at Alabama.

If someone can come up with a way around 4-5 years eligibility, a guy would be better off not going to the NFL, stay in college, have a big year and open yourself up to a bidding war.
