Liberty Bowl Projected

About the best we can do all things considered. And I would hope that the guys who have a chance at being drafted would sit this one out. They have nothing left to prove. This would be a good opportunity to check out what we have and don’t have.

Be prepared to get hammered. Others can be very short sided.

One thing Stoops has been good at throughout his time here, is getting the players to play in these bowl games. It’s part of why we’ve been able to win four straight. We’ve had very few, if any holdouts.

Dare Rosenthal?
Well, Kelvin Joseph too, but I think he left before the last game was played. Did Rosenthal sit out on purpose or was he injured? I remember Horsey taking over the LT spot but I thought it was because of an injury not a holdout. I could be completely wrong on that.

However, Benny Snell, Lynn Bowden, Jr., Josh Allen, Wan'Dale Robinson, Darrian Kinnard, Josh Paschal, Jamin Davis, among others who were all projected in the NFL draft came back to play and were integral parts of our winning the Bowl games.

I get both sides of the should they should they not play argument. Bowls outside of New years 6 and the playoff games are glorified exhibitions so I get the players not wanting to play and risk an injury.

That said, with NIL they are semi pro professionals now so perhaps that changes things. You can't make them play though, unless it's written into a NIL deal that is signed that they play in all games, including bowl game, if healthy each season.

Guys can claim they are hurt though so even if that happened there are still ways around it.

I think that sounds fun. I'd like to see us against a Big 12 team. Something new and OKST is pretty good consistently.

Hard to believe we'd slip past the mcb. Guess we'll see

Iirc he was listed as covid. We had tons of people out with covid. Amazing we were able to compete at all, let alone win

College Football News is projecting Kentucky vs Oklahoma State in the Autozone Liberty Bowl, Memphis Tn, December 28, 2022 @ 5:30PM CST ON ESPN.

FWIW, other sites are saying that Liberty wants to match Missouri vs. Kansas, which was a very long rivalry in the Big 8 and B12.

Makes more sense than UK v. Okie State to me. I think "settling" for the Liberty, instead of MCB or Texas or even Vegas would make it look like Mitch B was sacrificing a better bowl bid to placate the basketball program and avoid a conflict. IMO, would be a really bad look for UKAA. No other SEC team would even consider it.

In reality this bowl makes no sense for UK. I say that because looking at the bowl pecking order as to payouts - it is only better than one other bowl UK the SEC is hooked up with. I know some would argue - but the best bowl choice, if you eliminate the Florida bowls - is the Texas Bowl. Nice payout and played where weather conditions at game time are not a factor - its in an indoor professional football stadium! Hotel rooms will be reasonable- Houston is a very large city with many choices. A new destination - that would be different. It is a 15 hour drive for those who choose to drive - but Tampa is 12 and Jacksonsville is 11 - so all of them are normal two day drives or one very long day. If you want to see the sights in Memphis - well it could be an overnight stop on the way to Houston - lol!

Go Big Blue1

Hoping Levi's plays isn't selfish.
Being an ahole about it if he doesn't is.

Oklahoma State would be a new opponent.
They are very much like us.
At the beginning of the year, they were one of the best teams in the nation.
But had injuries to quarterback that really knocked them down a couple tiers.
Probably entering draft or portal.
Would be an even fight.

I couldn’t give a shit less about the payout.

Rosenthal was Injured

I’m not going regardless so I don’t care about the venue but I don’t want the MCB again. How many times have we been in that bowl? At least playing a Big 12 team would be appealing. We’ve done ACC to death and recently Big Ten. Would love to play a Big 12 or PAC 10 team.

I sure wouldn’t watch the basketball team if they were playing the same day as football. For crap sake we are playing UL. No one gives two shits about this game, especially this year.
I wanna watch that basketball game just for the laugh factor alone. We all need a good hearty belly laugh to keep us sane these days.

You're pathetic. You know who the players owe? I'll list them in order of importance/responsibility.

1. UK
2. Teammates
3. Coaches
4. Sponsors - This may actually be #1 for many players since you me me me types destroyed college sports.

If you're looking for fans, they aren't on the list. The players don't owe us anything. I'm glad to see you've joined in on the me me me, entitled generation.
1. They dont owe UK anything. They're paid nothing by Kentucky
2. You have no idea what their teammates want. I'd bet most of them want what's best for him because they're not selfish assholes.
3. See comment 2.
4. Sponsors, again if they pain them for NIL it was to sell goods not play football. They paid them for permission to use theit name image and likeness. Nowhere in those contracts is there anything about playing football. If there was, they'd get sued.

The fact that you cant see these other points of view is proof you only care about your ignorant view of the world and its all about what you want. You dont matter.

Based on your logic of selfishness, then why would he play any games after the South Carolina loss. Seems like most teams should cease to exist after they realize they aren't going to play in any meaningful post season games that could lead to a championship. From your point of view we should be seeing lots of forfeits as the season progresses because the risk reward of getting injured versus the reward of playing for a championship swings dramatically toward risk and away from reward. The idea that some games are not worth playing if you play sports seems absurd and misguided. People who play sports love to compete.

If that’s true then every game we played after the South Carolina loss was a glorified exhibition.

You aren't wrong.

College football has a terrible post season and why going to 12 is a step in the right direction I wish it went to 24 so UK would participate and compete for a national title some years. I'd rather make the playoff and take our chances then win some podunk bowl game.

The podunk bowl game gets press coverage, assists recruiting, and gives our team an extra 4 weeks of practice. This extra practice is when performance problems get addressed, and when redshirts and other young players make their moves to get noticed by the coaches before spring practice. It might not matter to people who don't know these things, but it is important for the improvement curve of programs that win that privilege by qualifying for the bowl.

He probably should have sat out after the USC game. The fact he played shows the kind of kid he is. It’s all about you. You can’t stand someone would have the audacity to not do what you want them to do.

You don’t know me so basically you are someone who runs around calling people things you have no clue about. Maybe you need to look in the mirror before making comments about people you don’t know anything about.
Why does this only apply to him? If what you say is true, why would anyone play under those circumstances? Why single him out? You are basically saying sport for the sake of sport is not worth the effort. If you believe that, fine. Most don’t, including athletes.
