I know the offense has had some ups and downs this year. So let me say that up front. However, I don’t feel like any of the issues are scheme or play calling related. It’s all execution and personnel related issues. I feel like receivers have great spacing and offense is constantly adapting around the defense. I hope this guy is around awhile.

I love Liam Coen. If the fans can't see the improvement in play calling and game planning/management over last year, they are blind.

I am concerned about his health. The pressure seems to bother him now more than when he first started here.

His drive for perfection can cause serious health problems.

Recruits see it, Boley and Saunders already onboard and that doesn’t happen without Coen. Also, no way do we get Leary who was the #1 portal QB without him. Coveted WR’s should start jumping onboard, Boulware was a knockout hire for RBs and STs; the future of the offense is bright if we can get some OTs.

Yeah, love the guy, hope he is here 4+ years

Go listen to his after practice talk yesterday, couple important points. The 1st INT vs vandy, the long ball into double covered Barion, that was the call of the play - throw it deep to him on the post. So Leary didn't have options, it was a 1 route play. Why, to try and get our talented soph reciever going with a big play. Fans crush Leary for the turnover when he did what his coach called for him to do. IMO some of he other INTs this month are for the same reason, forcing the ball to Brown & Key. Bet that goes away starting Saturday.

2nd important point Coen said: Leary's play so far is not who he is, how he played at NC St. He wasn't a drop back throw it deep guy. He was a shotgun short pass Leach-type QB. So fans are trashing the guy, calling him a huge disappointment and a flop. Truth is he is being asked to play like he never has before, under center, going 20+ yds down the field. But Coen recognizes this, and I bet we change play structure a bit, to do more short routes lots of options.

Yeah, we definitely will see him open up the playbook this weekend. Also wouldn’t surprise me to actually go up-tempo at times if necessary to get Leary rolling. Coen and everyone else knows how important it is to start out 2-0 in the conference, especially with how SC and MSt both looked to have major issues Saturday. I suspect that unless we somehow get a comfortable lead or down by two scores that he’ll throw the kitchen sink at them.

Coen is a very good OC, I would also dub him the Teflon Coach. The board is full of complaints about the offense (many not justified) but not a word is ever said against the OC 😁
Yeah I'm guilty of that some. I have some issues with his play calling etc but he's such a good guy I hate to pick at him.

I wish someone would ask Liam what he thinks about throwing vs running the ball.

I feel like we are balanced on offense more than ever.

Point #1: yes, we need to keep everyone happy (although I think that's impossible). But, we need to win more than we keep everyone happy. Winning will overshadow a lot of stuff. Forcing the ball to a WR who clearly wasn't open was a bad decision by LC. I don't think we should ever call a play that only has 1 option - you have to have a RB to dump off to, a TE short, etc.

Point #2: I'd very much like to see more of the short-to-medium passes that Leary is used to. I think we've thrown way too many bombs already this year. Some of the big chunk plays have been 15 yard passes that the receiver was able to scamper another 10+ yards. If that would get Leary more comfortable, increase his completion %, cut down on the mistakes, I'm 100% on board. We should go deep every so often to let teams know we will/can. But, seems like we throw 4 or 5 per game and, to me, that's 3 too many. Would love to start working the middle with the TEs and TRob rather than throw a 50 yard incompletion.

That is very true. Seems to fans, he’s untouchable. Good comment.

Bingo post!

Coen is a better OC than Scangerello...I don't think you'll get much argument at all. And to be fair, the softest teams we'll play all year.....it only gets tougher the rest of the way (Miss St might be worse than Vandy is the only consideration IMO).

The D won't likely score TDs for us in many games as well as special teams. I do think we're forcing long throws outside the numbers a good more than we need to and it can costs you 1-2 drives per game and in this conference....that will cost you wins. I hope Coen observes this and isn't in dire straights to get balls to Barion on low percentage plays to keep him from sulking/hitting the portal.

Be interested to see how this plays out as the year unfolds.

A Qb even tho he has a select target always has more then 1 option ....

I really think that is because he always man's up and takes responsibility when he makes a bad play call or makes an in game mistake.

He is so genuine in his press conferences you can't help but root for him to succeed.

Coen proved himself to me in 2021. As long as the offense keeps improving, we should be okay. The defense is good.

I liked that Coen said Leary should have bailed him (Coen) out for the bad call by throwing it away or tucking and trying to get back to the LOS for a 2nd and 10. Coen wasn’t blaming Leary, but admitting to the crap call and giving Leary discretion on the field.

He and White are a blast to watch at their weekly pressers.

Been working on combos so far and testing where everyone is. Now on same page

We have held back. You will see
I am certain that Coach Coen has not opened up the entire play book yet. There has been no need. That will change now. And I am sure Coen is saving something special for GA. Whether or not it helps, we have to have something diferent to pull out if the game is close and the circumstances require a splash.
