Levis rushing yards last year compared to this year

Scang has been extremely open about him trying to preserve and protect will be not having him run. It isn't some mystery.

The only question is whether or not it's fair to the team, program, and fans.
All true, but Levis seems more durable moving forward than backwards. He lowered his shoulder several times in ‘21, but missed playing time in ‘22.

I think the effort to preserve him has cost him and the program.

Levis college running days were over the second someone told him he was a likely top 10 pick.

at this point he has turf toe, a broken finger and dislocated shoulder. The qb draw ship has likely sailed if it was ever at port. Based on our we played with our backup yall better hope he stays in the pocket. It would be cool to see him torch U6 again though

It’s not even fair to will to play a style that takes him away from his strengths. Also the guy has been beat to hell bc this moron oc who ruined our season tried to hammer round pegs into square holes. Anyone ever thought our oline looks like crap bc they are being asked to do what they haven’t for any qb at UK under stoops? The offense is so friggin predictable and I hate to say it but Eddie gran was more creative than Scangarello. The guy just isn’t cut out to be a descision maker. A position coach ok but not run an offense the guy is terrible. Stoops has no choice other than fire him or we are going to go downhill fast. Who would want to play for this guy? And Barion brown? That dude is gone if we don’t bring in a legit qb.

if Scangarello is here another year it may be stoops last based on the trajectory

He’s projected in the top 10 of the draft. He’s been playing it safe all year. You don’t think this is not by design? Just another of the long list of disappointments if this year. Uninspired play calling, way too vanilla on offense, lack of focus, discipline, making the same mistakes over and again

He's also getting knocked on his ass and injured in that pocket instead of scrambling and getting loose for some positive yards

Designed runs can help vs pass rush too. Teams have to worry about pass rush integrity instead of just teeing off.

I understand the need to protect him but football is a contact sport. Unless you're a kicker or punter, you will get hit

It seems that Scang has forced Levis to be the nail after a career of being the hammer.

Anyone who ever played knows that you are less likely to be injured if you are delivering the blow than receiving it. This concept seems lost on our OC, and it has hurt Levis and our program in multiple ways. I feel sorry for Levis; I think he's trying to follow the direction he's receiving.

The other question is does that strategy even make sense? Will has been absolutely murdered IN THE POCKET. Last year he showed pretty good awareness and scramble ability to escape danger in the pocket.

You get that big frame on the move, and Will Levis is gonna be the guy delivering pain.

There are a lot of things wrong with this team, and Scang, but Will Levis refusing to use his legs has been absolutely maddening. Especially when we were without our RB.

You have to have a clock in your head at QB. If the ball ain’t out of your hands in X amount of seconds, it’s time to escape, or throw it away. Levis just holds the ball forever like there are no pass rushers on the field.

So this is most like the reason...but if true. Isn't this similar to Cal's crap he gets heat for....too occupied with NBA and does not win for UK.

Will has messed up his hand, shoulder and toe. Had a cut under his eye from a vicious sack at Florida. So did this really protect him physically not using his feet?

Scang either runs what helps UK win...or get his butt back to NFL....and Stoops needs to get on that page as well. It's not selfish to play football to win for college program. The Qbs if they get hurt 99% of time heal and if you have the game or not...NFL will find you.

When you piece together everything that was said, all the way back to wills interview with his local paper last year, I think some things are pretty clear:

1) will had the opportunity to leave for the NFL but chose to stay after coen reassured him he'd return. At that time, the Vikings had their target and it wasn't the rams oc. They even hired the guy in principle.

2) that deal surprisingly fell apart and the Vikings hired their contingency plan which was the rams oc. Now that job was open and coen took it.

3) will and family were almost surely upset about the situation because it was too late to declare but felt the kid got screwed by circumstances since he was promised by everyone coen was staying. That's understandable on all sides. The rams oc position is the most coveted coordinator position in all of football.

4) the search was on for an NFL oc who could come in and continue wills development. Stoops mentioned during a press conference they wanted to "do right by will" which was imo a reference to the unfortunate circumstances discussed in #3. They literally hired someone specifically for Levis. Will was even included in the interviews and in the decision making process.

Given all that, it seems pretty clear will not running is a joint decision by all involved. If he wanted to run, he would. He's a great kid, a great player, but we can never again get in a situation where our entire season and offense is completely centered around developing a project for the NFL. If the player is an incredible finished product, then yes. But that was not and is not a description of Levis.

You are seeing the same things I am. I can’t say as I blame him though. But yea he’s taken a beating really moreso by not running it. That’s his head coach making that call. Makes you wonder if he had it to do over again woukd he change some things. He’s just been pounded this year, beat all to hell. Last years version would have taken off sooner. I don’t doubt his toughness, I honestly believe he would run thru a wall. My disdain is more for his coaches who removed that option from him and have stood on the sidelines watching him get pummeled.
