Levis Running is the key

If Levis runs the ball today, we win. If he doesn’t run at all, we will lose.

Levis running changes our offense entirely. It’s an absolute travesty that he’s been restricted all season (until Georgia?). I firmly believe had he been able to run this season that our record looks way different right now. Whoever’s decision it was to tell him not to run shouldn’t be allowed within 500 yards of any football field anywhere.

I hope not because he's too hurt to do a lot of running.

Then we will lose.

I’m watching Clemson’s offense dismantle South Carolina’s defense right now because South Carolina has to account for Clemson’s QB to run it on every play. Totally changes the offense.

A little bit of an oversimplification there.

We have a very good Rback. Our Qback has a foot injury.

One possible advantage we have in this game is that our best Qback will start, while UL's best Qback is questionable. If I were the game planner, I would have 25-30 rushes planned for CRod today, and I would base our vertical passing game on play action. If we establish our running game and occupy UL's safeties, then vertical routes by Brown and Key will be open. I think you save Levis' running game for the 2nd half, and only if needed. I kinda doubt this game will be as close as the predictions, although anything could happen if inopportune TOs are committed.

If Stoops doesn't coach scared and allows the offense to actually try to score points, we might win.
If his OC and OL staff will crack the code on how to get the OL to do their dang job and open holes for RBs and pass block for the QB, the entire offense could be employed with more boldness.

Bottom line, no amount of HC courage or a OC creative playbook will counter a toilet-paper OL. A poor OL is like having a car without an engine...looks nice but doesn't get you anywhere.

GBB!

I don’t disagree, but this game plan would have won both SC and Vandy games and was not implemented. It won’t be implemented today either. We had a legitimate shot at beating UGA last weekend and it was because Levis kept them off balance by running.

I actually think his injury status has been overblown big time. I have no doubt he’s a banged up a bit (given all the sacs) but I don’t think his toe is nearly the issue or crutch it’s been made into. He ran just fine last week.

If Levis isn’t a threat to run it then UL will load up and stuff CRod. If Levis runs a few times it will really help CRod

He’s not going to put himself, nor is the coaching staff, at risk for draft status at this point. The season is lost and in the long run this game doesn’t matter for someone looking to sign 100 million dollar contract and having an NFL career. He won’t be running much but it definitely helps when he does.

It’s not the foot it’s the shoulders.

I say, run the play clock down to 1, run up the middle on 1st and 2nd down and then throw screen passes on third down and hope we can break a couple. That’s the safest plan.

First off, UL is not UGA. That is two different levels of college football. Each game is a tactical matchup.

To win today, there are a couple of things we cannot do. The first is TOs. We cannot commit them. But you can't plan those. When it comes to planning, the first thing we cannot do is set up Levis stationary in the pocket without establishing our running game and using play action as the basis for our passing game. Our Oline has improved modestly, but they are better run blockers than pass blockers. UL isn't UGA, but UL has been successful with their speed pass rushers. We do not want to make it easy for them, and we do not want Levis taking a lot of contact in the pocket.

Another bad idea would be running laterally. We do not want to do that. UL's defense is fast but not physical in the SEC sense of being physical. When you run laterally, you help UL by playing right into their defensive pursuit and you commit more holding penalties. We win this game by running the football straight ahead at UL's small Dline and wearing them down. When we throw the football, we should do it off the run fake to make their speed rushers hesitate.

Run CRod straight ahead relentlessly at UL's small DL, and throw the football off the run fake. Don't turn the football over, and don't do anything stupid or unsound in phase 3. There is your win.

You don’t think UL knows we run it straight up the middle virtually every play? It’s all too predictable. I think they’ll stack the box the entire first qtr. Yes, give it to CRod early, but sometime in the first qtr Levis has got to pull that ball and run it. Otherwise it’s loaded boxes and CRod trying to carry tacklers all day long.

I stand by my original post; Levis has to run some today for UK to win. If he doesn’t run, I predict we lose. We will find out. GBB!

He’s not going to run a bunch man. Just get that out of your head. They didn’t hold levis back from running all year to open it up on the UL game(last game of the season). It’s not happening. He’s hurt. I’m surprised he’s even playing tbh.

He ran 4 times just last week. What’s the difference?

If he doesn’t run, fine. But we will not win unless he pulls it and runs a couple of times. Has to. Otherwise they’ll load the box and dare us to beat them in the air.

I’ll gladly come back on and feast on crow if I’m wrong. Trust me, I want this game.

Me too man, just saying there will not be a bunch of designed runs for Will.

Football just isn't as simple as that. Usually, a team knows what the opponent will try to do. Can they stop it? That is the question.

Matchups make football games. UL is outperforming because of their speed pass rush, sacks and hurries, and their TO advantage. Their offense has underperformed. Their rush defense has not been very good, and they have been vulnerable to vertical passing when they haven't been able to hurry the passer. Those weaknesses are the keys to beating them, but you will not beat them if you do not try to exploit their weaknesses. You defeat their strengths by running straight ahead at their small Dline, wearing them down, using play action, and taking good care of the rock. You don't want to run laterally against a quick defense, and you don't want your Qback standing as a stationary target in the pocket when you are behind the chains.

I have no problem with designing a few runs for Levis, but those plays should be held for certain situations when it counts the most. Levis still has a bad foot and a sore shoulder. You do not want Levis getting hurt again, and you do not want UL getting free runs and free hits on him anymore than necessary. CRod should be the main rushing weapon. In order to win this game, we need 150-200 rushing yards out of CRod and a sound tactical passing game without picks from Levis, attacking all three levels of their defense and wearing down their speed with our physicality.
