And Tom Izzo....For the gift from God that is Tyler Ulis. Already a fan favorite and is probably the best pure PG we have had since Jwall. Cant wait to see the Guard play this year.

That worked out quite well indeed. I seriously doubt Mudiay would have made a difference against Wisconsin and now we have Ulis back for year 2, which we would not have had with Mudiay.

The offense should be much more fluid this year with Ulis playing the majority of minutes at point guard. With guys like Murray and Mulder spreading the floor, Tyler will have his way with most opposing defenses. If Briscoe is even halfway competent as a perimeter shooter, it just heightens the level of fluidity UK will possess next year.

Obviously, it would be foolish to expect another historic start like last year's group, but I actually like this upcoming unit more because of the spacing advantages they'll have. Of course, so much of my expectations comes with the assumption that Murray and Mulder will be higher-end three point shooters.

Yeah seriously. I wanted Mudiay bad, but thank God things worked out the way they did right? Cant wait to see how much our boy Ulis has improved his game by the time the season starts. I think he's going to be the best PG in the nation and put up crazy assist numbers. Something like 12-13pts, 7-8ast per game.

Don't think we'll see a blueblood school PG average that many assists, and especially not to go along with those points. In Ulis' case, for example, his usage rate won't be high enough with all of the other ball handlers on the team, but if he can give us 10/5, I'll bet you we're pretty good this year.

I could see him averaging 6-7 assists but with that number being that high probably only 7-8 pts a game.

Yeah, John Wall didn't even do that. He averaged 6.6 or so...if Ulis can average 5+...great season.

Wall averaged 16pts, 6.5ast, and 4rbs. Its not far fetched at all for Ulis to put up 12pts, 7ast. But my safe bet may be like 12pts, 5ast. I do think he'll score more than some people think. I think he'll be more willing to take 3's and look for his shot a little more

A Mudiay commitment would have been a disaster. The Harrison's probably would have went in the draft last year and Ulis ends up at Michigan State. If Mudiay backed out on us like he did SMU, we probably would have ended up with Josh Perkins or Tum Tum Nairin as our starting point guard.

Tyler Ulis is a smart, and crafty player that can impact the game in multiple ways. It's going to be a fun season with Tyler at the helm.

I know cal said ulis is not a 4 yr player but I would love to see him stay. What's scary is he will get better and better especially playing against the best. He's fearless out there and not afraid to take the big shot. As long as cal continues to surround him with top talent, I don't think its out of the realm of possibility he ends up being drafted mid to late first round depending on what happens over the next two years. He's right there with mkg as having the biggest heart to ever don a uk jersey.

I don't think Ulis is even close to Wall's level as a PG. I think a lot of people on here are pumping him up to ridiculous standards. I agree 5 assists is a good guess...I think 7 assists would be very farfetched.

Only because the Harrison's stayed and thus Cal stayed! I love Ullis, but Mudiay would have been a Beast!!

No one on Kentucky will average more than 6 assists/game. It's not because they can't; it's because there's simply too many elite ball-handlers on the team. I look for UK's primary three guards to replicate what Illinois did in 2005. Three guys will averages between 3 and 5 assists/game. That's as good as it gets on the college level with three players dictating the offense.

There is not enough scoring in college (primarily due to the cowardly zone defenses that less talented teams play) for a pg to average more than 5 assists per game.

Quick story. I just started a new job for Marathon Petroleum in Lima, OH, where Ulis is originally from. One of my coworkers (who ill call Joe) is also from the area, I am about an hour from Lima.

Anyway. When Tyler was going into his freshman year Joe was at an open gym at the high school, Lima Senior. Well, Tyler was there also. Granted Joe was a D1 ball player in his day who went to Colorado State I believe and played pg/sg. Joe now is in his early 40s. You do the math.

So the pickup game starts and Joe is guarding a guy in the post, reason being Joe is like 6' 3", and it's a pick up game, and Joe doesn't want to guard on the perimeter. He's older. Tyler is on the opposite team playing point.

Joe's words. "I think Tyler realized I was a weak link, and called my guy out on a pick and roll. His defender went under the pick and I got switched on Tyler. I'm thinking. I'm going to back off because if I get to close he'll just go by me. So I step back and he pulls up and drains a 3. Next posession Tyler does the same thing. A couple possessions later, he does it again and this time I go out on him so he doesn't make another 3. Well, bad idea. He crossed me over and blew by me in an instance and scored a layup."

Joe raved about his skill at a young age and being so small. He told me Tyler went to two different high schools in Lima asking to play Varsity his freshman year and they both denied him. So he moved to Chicago with his dad or mom one.

Anyway. Sorry for the long story. It was interesting to me.
