This is a double edged sword.

From the fans perspective who want the #2 QB in.....he's usually #2 for a reason.

From a coaches perspective, stubbornly sticking with a QB who is killing your team will end up destroying your career.

I don't think anyone on here knows what Barker is capable of doing. Like you said he's probably #2 for a reason. I believe this coaching staff will make the right decisions. They don't want to lose either. I'm hopeful Towles just had a terrible game and will kill it next week.

Towles has been terrible for almost 9 straight games now.

Maybe they want to motivate both guys to improve by having the competition continue into the fall.

I have a feeling that Towles does much better in practice and then gets into his own head and overthinks things when he gets into a live-game situation.

The reason the coaches stick with him is because they know what he is capable of. They want it to click with Towles. The last thing you want when you are trying to get a QB to click is take away his position and throw in the new guy.

Like it or not, Towles is our guy, so quit whining.

If anything, I wish they would get Towles to a sport's psychologist. Give him methods to cope with over-thinking and second-guessing. That's why it seems like he holds onto the ball for so long. He wants to make the best possible choice and not mess it up but does half the time because he's his own worst enemy. If Towles goes out and plays his game, he is unstoppable. We've seen flashes of it in games before.

Is there a sports psychologist on staff? If not, maybe that would help him
And maybe while he's here he can see what Dawson is thinking , leaving his tackles out on an island ALL GAME LONG ! Could we not bring a tight end in and chip the D end just once ?

Who here gets paid big bucks to coach? Show of hands. That is what I thought. Dawson has done quite well in his young career. Holgorson trusted the guy's offensive eye and that's all I need to know. He will get it figured out.

This is my lone coaching adjustment I want to see made...we simply don't have good enough tackles to block really good DE...at times, we need to leave in a TE/RB to help as well as rolling the pocket a bit. Almost the entire game we leave our OT on an island in passing situations.

If they choose to stick with Towles this yr and next yr, they'll be in the unemployment line soon after

Who knows about practice but doing the same unsuccessful thing over and over is a sure recipe for failure. Try something else, wildcat, Barker, Phillips, read option, something.

If Barker is so far behind why does the QB competition go into the fall? Both years it has. Pat must not be that far ahead if they can't name a starter until fall camp.

It could be that the staff did know what PT could and would do under game conditions and was hoping Barker could take the job away in a competition.
What's more likely is Barker is even more inconsistent than PT in practice so it would take a major leap of faith to presume he would be more consistent in a game.

So your saying that Towles stats
8/24 126yrds passing 5.2 yrds an attempt 0 TD's and 2 int with a QBR score of 15.4
Your saying that Barker is worse? I assume 7/24 passing with 14 yards of passing with 0 TD's and 4 pics maybe?? Is that what your saying?

Everybody and their mama can see that Towles cannot play in big games. At least give somebody else some reps and see how they do.

There was pass in the Army All-American game with a receiver coming across the middle, Barker hit him right on the numbers, I am not sure Towles would be able to make that pass today.
