Lee is playing too well not to play more than Skal

Lee is better than Skal. Skal is like Lee freshman season. Skal is a disappointment right now but hopefully he will improve at a record pace...or we will be a good team but not an elite team.

Without a doubt.

I think cal is getting pretty close to doing that. At some point he'll switch his decision on Skal.

Totally agree, Lee should start, and Skal needs to be coming off the bench. Lee gives us a MUCH better chance to win each game, and I think it's obvious to anyone and everyone.

No knock on Skal; I realize he hasn't played much in the past year or so, and that's part of it, but I honestly believe he simply isn't ready to be a starter on a team like Ky. It's POSSIBLE he was badly over rated, but not very likely. No, I think it's mainly in his head. He doesn't have any confidence in himself and his game right now, and I think it stems from the "shock" of suddenly being thrust into playing against other very good players.

We all know the tools are there, we've seen them. What we haven't seen is the desire, the fire if you will, to compete, to want to win. Cal can only push him so far; until the young man pushes HIMSELF he won't improve, IMO.

Marcus Lee gives us SO much more right now, and I truly feel Skal should come off the bench, for the good of the team. WILL it hurt recruiting? Why would it? Wasn't Lee a very highly rated recruit in his own right? He's obviously improved leaps and bounds since he's been here, and not everyone is a OAD. Skal may, just may, be another Lee, requiring more than one year to fully develop into the player we know he can be.

JMHO.

Cal always said he'd play his best players regardless of class. Skal will either outplay Lee or ride the pine IMO. Don't give it to Skal, make him earn it.

These last 2 games, 00 hasn't missed a beat. Career-high 5 blocks in both, double-figure points, strong on the glass.

Skal will get every opportunity to remain a starter and get better. This is about recruiting. Recruiting is also the reason Willis is on a short leash and the McDonald's boys get to play through mistakes.

It is bad for recruiting if your TOP McDonald's boys don't go 1 and done.

Lee's been playing really well. Better than I expected before the season started. Rebounding well, scoring whenever The opportunity arises, and his defense is getting better and better. Really happy for him. It's looking like he's going to find a home in the NBA sooner rather than later.

This is nonsense. Cal is gonna get a top 2 class no matter if our top players go pro after one year or not. Nothing is bad for recruiting.

And the reason the "burger boys" get to play through more mistakes is because 10/10 times, they are the better players. Shocking.

Hey...let up on Skal...he had a monster block in the first half.
Skal is playing like he's intimidated...afraid to do anything...

Cal needs to hold back his intensive criticism when Skal
makes a mistake...that approach is counterproductive...the
kid is not accustomed to it.

Lee is playing a lot more than Skal. Who starts is unimportant right now. We can't give up on Skal this early. I'm old enough I actually remember a time when freshmen grew into their role and the really good ones were ready by the end of the SEC schedule. With our roster turnover our frosh go straight into the crucible. Skal's not playing, he's thinking and while he's thinking he's being left flat footed. Hopefully he bottomed out today.

I may be wrong but didn't Lee start the second half. Maybe Cal is going that direction in the starting lineup.
Yes he did start lee in the 2nd over skal. He has actually done that a few times this season starting either Humphries or poythress over him to start the 2nd.

Have you lost your mind. You were just saying yesterday that Cal's quote about getting players in the pros was he main goal was only for recruiting.

Marcus is quietly having a very solid year. If he was a real good shooter it would be scary how good he would be.

While yes, Lee has been playing well enough to deserve playing over Skal, but Skal isn't going to get better by sitting on the bench either. Kentucky isn't going to reach the level they need to reach to win the championship if Skal isn't given the opportunity to play and improve.

I think Question Coach Cal is trying to figure out is whether he can show enough development while playing.

If the answer is no, i think we'll see Humphries start to play more minutes than him. I'm going to guess that Coach Cal will play Skal more minutes than Humphries for another 4-5 games. If Skal shows barely any progress, i could see Humphries start taking the first off the bench role. (This is assuming Marcus/Alex starting)

Lee is playing better than a lot of people thought he would. Now the question is if Skal does not improve will he be back next year? I know a lot of you have asked yourself this question.

Skal is looking like he will be running out of the paper circle on senior night.

I don't think he ever graduates from UK. He looks as unhappy as I have ever seen a kid. Bet he transfers if he isn't drafted. UK isn't for everyone, and it looks like he had no clue what he was getting into.

Joe B Hall said that players don't become who they are until the 2nd semester of their sophomore years. And that's just a rule of thumb. People don't develop at the same rate. Witness Frank Kaminsky. The key to mastering any skill is repetition, and Skal missed a lot of playing due to injuries and personal matters. He just needs repetition and patience from the Peanut Gallery.

Willis won't get any better sitting on bench either. You think when Cal recruited Willis he told him he would play 5 min/game and get yanked every time he mass a mistake.

Was not aware Derek Willis was the same person as Marcus Lee or Skal Labissiere.

I don't think he promised Willis 5 seconds of playing time.

For the record, Lee played 29 mins today and Skal played 13

What are you talking about op? Lee is playing more, he played more than twice as many minutes as Skal.

Lee is a lot more reliable, but the the team's potential is so much higher is Skal finally, hopefully, puts it together you can't bench him.

Brutal truth- Lee deserves to start and is the much better player at this point. However it is December and premature to bury Skal yet. He needs time on the court to adjust to the college game. Skal has played very little competitive basketball the last couple of years and it shows. How about UK fans get behind him and support him rather than saying he sucks etc. He is a teenager just out of high school.

It is far worse for team chemistry to play someone who isn't earning his time by his play. Cal has to stick to his philosophy or that is what will be bad for recruiting.

Again. Lee played 29 minutes last night and Skal played 13. And Lee started the second half.

I noticed and didn't say anything to the contrary. I do think Lee should start both halves. I am worried about Skal though. I didn't like his body language or the anguish on his face. He's a good kid and I want to see him excel. Right now he looks like he has moved from frustrated to defeated. That's dangerous territory.

Skal needs game experience, lots of it. We need Skal at his best. Skal will play.

Get over it.
Hmm, then you're saying Skal will get preferential treatment from Cal. I doubt it. Yes, Skal needs time on the court, but he also needs to earn it. Giving him too many minutes when he isn't earning them will only hurt him in the long run. Get over that.

Get ready for disappointment. The team will get what it needs. They need Skal. Small needs to play. This ain't little league.

Umm, are you trying to help my point? You're right, ths ain't little league. But you dodged my question again. Doesn't Cal preach that you have to earn playing time? He also preaches this isn't communism (little league). You are correct, we need Skal, but only if he is an asset.
