Leary...Suggestion

I WISH Levis had “dinked/dunked” to his check-down more often this year. Instead, he usually tried to wait for primary & secondary routes to work open and left himself prone to sacks. Those routes should only get the QB’s eyes 1.8 & 2.2 sec respectively.

Go watch a few of the sacks from games this season and watch how often the back releasing ends up wide open — case in point: vs Miss St he actually hit McLain on one of these and it ended up being an explosive play that got us into red zone to set up a TD.

If Leary’s already shown he had the wherewithal to progress to and use the check down/“rush route” I’m pretty happy about it.

If you watch learys highlights he moves on very quickly. He looks option 1 and if it’s not there he immediately goes to 2 then to 3. Compared to WL film it’s daylight to dark. Probably doesn’t have close to the raw arm talent that will had, however will likely end up the much better college QB overall. Notice I said college. WL will be a great pro if he works on some things.

Been watching a lot of Leary from 2021 and I'm even happier that he is a Cat than before. His receivers at NCState had a lot of drops and the running game wasn't good enough for play action to be a thing consistently so those numbers are even more impressive upon further review.

hailfloridahail.com has a really critical article about Mertz. I kind of liked the Mertz kid but I didn't realize how average he was until I read the article. I think Stoops did a great job with the Leary pick up.
I would link it but for some reason I am computer illiterate today.

The guy is much more established than Levis was and Coen hand picked him. By far a more accurate passer than Levis.

Not sure why you continue to make it seem like it isn't a good pickup.
Don't think I said that, in fact I pointed out him in 2021 game against Clemson whe he threw a very good ball for winning td..22/34 238 yds 4tds. He'll be fine.

Studied the replay of the Clemson game that NCSt lost 31-21. NCSt had no running game, their LT was horrible pass blocking, the OL as a whole was plenty big but got totally whipped all day, and they had 0 good receivers. I do not see how they was 4-0 going into that game. Leary had to be frustrated to the max. To literally have no help, it was wierd they was able to score 21 points. Leary throws really good outs and has good touch on slants. Showed he can throw it as far as he needs to. Bottom line is Leary is going to be surrounded with a ton more talent than what he is used to and I can see him being coached up a lot more than where he was at. Will be interesting to see how much different he looks in our program and in this league. Will be a whole new world for him to adapt to.
