Learning how to win

There have been a thousand threads about the game but I'll make one more. I have to say that while we should NEVER have a close game with a 1AA school, this team somehow found a way to win.

Living in Ohio for a very long time, I've clearly had a lot of exposure to Ohio State football. While their fans bug the living crap out of me, over the years they've had tons of close games with all sorts of teams of a different caliber. Somehow, almost always, they find a way to win. It doesn't matter how bad it's looking for them, you just know deep down they're going to pull it out. Like them or not, that's what makes them one of the top teams in the nation every year.

Kentucky football has been the opposite for quite a while now. We find ourselves in a handful of close games every single year, and almost every time we find a way to lose. While you should never be in that position with this caliber of team, we unforutunately were. We all know in years past we would have folded when we got down 2 scores, but we didn't. This team could easily be 0-5, but we're not. We're 4-1 and still on track for a bowl. It may not be pretty, and you may get angry with them (I was about as mad as I've ever been with them last night) but they're starting to learn how to pull off close games. I'm not calling Kentucky a GOOD team this year after last night's game, but winning close games is certainly a trait of perennially good teams. This is a team that could beat anyone on our schedule, or lose to anyone on our schedule. It's frustrating, but the fact that we're starting to pull off these close victories is another stepping stone to getting where we want to be.
