Latest bracketology has Kentucky as an...

Would love to have a National seed, some of those projections are a little out there however. LSU hosting a regional, but not Auburn, could happen if Auburn stumbles down the stretch, but they have great pitching.

I think we would still need to show up for the SEC tourney. Not advancing past the first or 2nd round could hurt us.

It would be OK to win a game or 2, these post season conference tourneys seem to be more for bubble teams. If you have a strong regular season, the NCAA committee seems to reward you for that !

I hate the conference tourneys in basketball and baseball. All they do is tire out the players. I don't want to see UK go 2 and out, but I won't be devastated if we don't fare well in Hoover.

Man being a national seed would be so freaking amazing. I am giddy just thinking about it. Hopefully the guys keep their own excitement down and they keep getting it done on the diamond.
I really believe if they can win the series at uscjr they would virtually lock up a top 8 unless they happen to fall apart with the next eight games at home...#GOCATS!!!

I'm not sure. There are a lot of good teams at the top of the SEC and I think we're fighting all those teams for one maybe two national seed spots for the SEC.

Beat Jr and win like 7of 8 at home would give 38 wins and an RPI and S0S in top 5...would be very hard to keep us out of it and I think we become a t5 seed:clap::clap::clap::clap::baseball::baseball:

I think UK needs to win at least 1 in Hoover. 2 would be a perfect scenario. Oh what the hell. Let's just win the whole thing. Wouldn't that be something.

I think if we win three of the last four series then we may have it locked up. However, my concern is that we're still fighting with about 5 teams to win the SEC. I don't think that the SEC will have more than 1 national seed and it may be easiest to give the national seed to the SEC team that wins the conference. I think we largely decide our own fate, but a team like Florida can come on strong with a weak schedule for the next three weeks. Should be a fun ride ladies and gentlemen!

I understand your concern, but the advantage that UK has is that our RPI is so strong due to A) strong SEC and B) good OOC scheduling (UNC, UCSB, UL twice, etc). Florida is also in great shape, so as of today, you'd have UK and UF getting national seeds.

Would be great to see MSU / Aub / Ark beat one another up in the next few weeks though.

I agree with you that we have probably the best resume out of anyone to date. Where I worry is whether or not they would give two national seeds to two SEC teams and if they do, then would they give those to two SEC East teams? I think if we finish ahead of Florida in the conference then it is hard to give it to them over us, but if we finish with similar records or theirs is better then the national seed might just slip away.

Sure, why not? It's not like the SEC east is horrible like SEC east football has been. The East has 4 bona fide NCAA tourney teams (SEC likely has 9 overall) with UK, UF, USC Jr, and Vandy. Mizzou is decent this year. Only UGA and UT are bad (but neither is as bad as Bama). The SEC had 4 national seeds last year and is generally perceived as the best college baseball conference, so I don't think anyone will get heartburn giving the SEC two national seeds.

I do agree with the earlier point, however, that there is stiff competition from within as Arky, Auburn, MSU all within striking distance.

I agree that it isn't out of the realm of possibility. However, it is extremely likely that the ACC gets UNC, Clemson, and Louisville as national seeds. Oregon State will get a national seed and Texas Tech is also likely to get one. So, you're down to just 3 spots available for national seeds, and you have a handful of teams that are definitely in the argument for getting them. TCU has a valid argument to be one. Auburn, Miss. State, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Florida all have solid arguments to be one.

The SEC is pretty strong this year, but I think the West is stronger than the East this year. Vanderbilt and South Carolina are both solid teams, but are a level below Auburn, Miss. State, and Arkansas. You've got 5 SEC West teams in the D1Baseball top 25, but just two from the East. So, really, my bigger concern there is if they give the SEC two teams, will they make two of them out of the East, which is seemingly weaker than the West, or will they reward a West team?

As we've said, it kind of depends on how it all plays out. Florida can practically skate from now until the Kentucky series and they could conceivably sweep both UGA and Alabama and also win the series against Ole Miss. That would give them 18 SEC wins before UK ever heads down there. UK could conceivably also win the same number, but a realistic number would be 6. That would give us the same number of wins as Florida going into the final weekend. Arkansas could also be right there on the cusp of 20 wins. Miss State will also be around 19+ wins. So, what do you think the committee does when they have Florida with 20 wins, Arkansas with 20 wins, Miss State with 20 wins, and UK with 19? Or shuffle around the names and numbers a bit. It is going to be very interesting.

Fair points all the way around, but I think there are a few things I respectfully disagree with:

1. I think the committee cares more about OOC, strength of schedule (which RPI considers strongly), and who you beat. To that end, UF and UK are far above Auburn, MSU, and Arkansas in the pecking order. UK has a really strong schedule, a great RPI, and great series wins over LSU, Ole miss, Vandy, and A&M, plus a win over UL. UF has series wins over LSU, South Carolina, Vandy, and season sweep of FSU.

2. I completely agree with you that UF's road is as easy as it gets between now and the UK series. Could be looking at a tie heading into that weekend.

3. I don't think the committee really cares if Arkansas or Auburn has one more SEC win than does UK. These days, schedules are unbalanced and I don't think that would take away a national seed from uK.

4. The western teams are going to beat one another up in the coming weeks. MSU plays A&M, LSU. Auburn must play LSU, Ole Miss. Arky must play A&M and Ole Miss. With UK getting to play UGA and UT and UF getting to play UGA and Bama, I think we'll see UK and UF separate a bit.

5. The critical series for UK is this weekend. Lose to South Carolina and it almost makes the final weekend series against UF a must-win.

Good points, sir. I am just glad we can have this discussion.
Cb3 & SB10...that is why I've said winning this weekends series against SCJR and then(best are scenario) winning at least 7-8 of the home series should lock us home a top seed.

PLEASE tell me how Otis stays in this...starting with Puke their next 12 games are against teams with a combined record of 119-145...that is pathetic!

With only having lost 6-8 games they will certainly be in the mix. Plus they still have a pretty high rpi.

UL schedule a total joke. They do have to play Clemson and FSU to finish the season, but it's a really awful schedule and not enough baseball people are acknowledging that.
218th in the non conference. Can you imagine how bad it would be if they didn't play us twice? Lol

I wonder how much RPI plays in the picture? Isn't UK fourth right now with a SOS fourth also? That has to be one of the strongest resumes in baseball.

Actually we got bumped to 3rd in rpi after last night's win and our schedule is 3rd best in the nation, 26th in out of conference. only Rice and Baylor have played harder schedules. Been a very impressive season.

That is why I say that if we win this weekends series and barring a total collapse there should be no doubt we get a top 5 seed...

Surely, Ole Miss is good for one win against Florida next weekend. Obviously, I think Florida will sweep Bama.

Ole Miss took 2 of three from Arkansas at Arkansas this past weekend, and they were on the cusp of getting a sweep. So, it certainly isn't out of the question. They are kind of forgotten because they are near the bottom of a very tough half of the conference, but they definitely aren't a slouch.

Take care of our own business and we'll be fine...besides I think we are better thanFla and can take the series there!!!

I agree... we have our fate in our hands at this point. Still, my old (not that old) heart doesn't want the nerve of worrying about having to beat Florida in two of three games, so I'll take every Florida loss I can get. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

By the way, UK up to number 4 in today's D1baseball poll, up 2 spots.
