Does anyone have any information on these facilities - good or bad? They do laser surgery but I have read on several sites that they are not reputable?

As someone who makes a living in the spine world, here's my advice. You have one spine, take good care of it. While you can have surgery (fusion, discectomy, etc.) to potentially fix any issue, spine surgery is not easy and results and outcomes vary. In short, there are a lot of variables.

That said, I don't know anything about laser spine institutes but have heard their advertisements. Personally, I would see a legitimate Neuro or Ortho-Spine surgeon.

So you're telling me the Laser Spine Institute does laser surgery?
Yes, that is what they can do. I know there are laser surgery for a lot of things including eye surgery. I just don't know anything about the laser surgery for the spine and if it is effective.

As a Physical Therapist, this is spot on. There's an old saying in carpentry, "measure twice, cut once." Meaning, once you go surgery, you can't go back. Here is my algorithm.

1. Find the best Physical Therapist you can and do what they say. Not all PT's are the same. So, it's ok to try a couple PT's. Also, PT's often have a focus......I would much rather try a spine specialist PT than just a general one.
2. If PT fails, it's ok to try a pain management Dr......especially if they are a good one.
3. If surgery is your last resort, then I would pick the best surgeon......not necessarily the best technology (like laser). Sometimes these are one in the same, but often they aren't.

Stay away from them..One slip with the laser and that area is fried and there is nothing that you can do to get it back. I checked on them recently and they had several large lawsuits against them. Go see a good orthopaedic surgeon. Good luck.
