They had a bottle thrown from the stands near the end of their loss to Texas Tech in Allen Fieldhouse yesterday, in addition to this article with the social media abuse. I can never remember anything ever being thrown on the floor at Rupp. What a disgrace that would be, way worse than losing a game. You lose your dignity when you do stuff like that.

Pretty rich the AD coming out and declaring that it wasn't their own fans. We sometimes suspect that kind of thing too, but he's on record stating it as fact.
I read it as saying a “true Jayhawk” wouldn’t do something like that, but who knows.

Regardless, the screenshots are terrible. Direct messaging athletes is bad enough. Direct messaging them with what they said is disgusting.

I might agree except he went on to invent his own villains, gamblers and haters.

This is where NIL can go bad. It's not always good to take money from people you don't know. They may have different expectations than the player and some psycho will act on it.

I remember in the Kentucky vs. LSU game years back, oranges came flying from the upper deck. Hit no one but created quite the mess to clean up....lol

When these guys are getting paid what they are, and driving what they drive etc, a lot of fans stop seeing them as college kids juggling practice, travel, school, and trying to pay for a pizza. They start seeing them a rich stars and act as they would about NBAers. This is what the college game has become. They want the millions, now they better put out or fans and gamblers want their pound of flesh. I agree with the AD about the gamblers part. They wanted gambling as part of the fan experience. Well, this is what happens.

Obviously, I don't personally feel this is right. Just saying.

It’s one thing to message them (which I still think is crazy), it’s a whole different thing to call him a n******, monkey, want to beat him with a belt, etc. This was happening before NIL and gambling. I can’t imagine what some of these guys get in their messages. Some people suck big time.

This is what happens when you get big bucks to play a sport. Especially when those kids are making anywhere from 5-25 times what most people see in a year.

And especially with the transfer portal coaches can’t use the “Well it takes a few years to build”. No. No it doesn’t. You go out and get the dudes you want.

Problem is most coaches don’t know how to do that. Including Self.

It’s a brave new world in college sports. Adapt or die. Self is currently becoming a fossil along with Cal.

And as always when you’re making the money coaches and now players are, there’s no crying on the yacht.

These kids are professional athletes Personally, I would not say anything to any athlete college or pro but they are getting paid soooooo.
Yes it is weird but they are getting paid
So, since they are getting paid, it’s ok for people to tell then they should die, they would beat them with a belt, call them racist names, etc?

Imagine being a grown ass adult who is such a loser and unable to control their emotions to the point you send death threats and direct racist messages to a college athlete over the outcome of a sporting event.

This is entertainment, not life and death. I will forever mercilessly mock grown adults who do this.

Rule of thumb: If you are older than the oldest guy on the team, you’re too damn old to be contacting anyone directly.

This example is one where certain KU fans are showing they base their own self worth on the success of their men’s basketball team. Sad and pathetic.

Remember -- Kansas is a fan base that not only accepted, but embraced the repeated recruiting of Women Abusers and violent players prone to assault, that looked the other way when players who assaulted women while on scholarship were allowed to remain on the team, that applauded when Self recruited a point guard who had ALREADY been charged with rape in Texas, and who completely backed Self when he brought sanctions down on the program for cheating and lying.

But lose a few games at home -- NOW YOU'VE GONE TOO FAR!

Every fanbase, unfortunately has them (particularly the larger , rabid ones (like Alabama, UK, OSU etc)

This was the first thought I had about the KU incident, not to mention the multiple
incidents of paying players,(before NIL) tapes of Self working out deals with agents
then claiming KU was a victim in any wrong doing. KU runs a not too distant second
to UNC when it comes to generational NCAA violations for which they were never
held accountable. They could go winless for the next 5 years and the scales still
wouldn't be balanced.

This is so true. Never forget the ugliness and corruption of Kansas and UNCheat.

I clearly remember coins being thrown on the floor in the early to mid 80's - at the officials.

Just because they are getting paid doesn't give people the right to call them the N-word. That's WAAAAY out of line.

You've never met soccer fans then. Hell, Honduras and El Salvador has a mini-war over it. (That's real btw, look it up.)

Point being, people get passionate about their sports and like everything else in life, some take it waaaaaay too far.

This now after last week's "I didn't necessarily talk to OSU about leaving" and rabid KU fans hurling racial slurs at their own players. Weird and wild ass times in Lawrence.

I wonder what the odds are of Self being there next year. Between his statements, the turmoil, fans hurling racial slurs, sounds like a toxic work environment.

I could see him hanging it up.

There's a Twitter page which mocks fans losing it on there team . Some of the KU fans are making it enjoyable to view.
And make no mistake, we have several fans who make the list weekly also.😅

People are going to continue to spew hate regardless if the team is winning or losing. The only thing that you can do is try to teach your kids right and wrong and then you live by them as well!

Couldn’t happen to a nicer fanbase. /sarcasm
