Kobi Simmons

My impression is that he would like to come here, if we offered him. I don't think we'll have room for him.

I would think Simmons and Bolden have contingent offers that they could take at any time, but...

SENIORS - Willis, Hawkins
JUNIORS - Mulder
SOPHOMORES - Wynyard, Humphries, Matthews

That's the bare, bare minimum of returning scholarships. Poythress graduates, Skal, Murray, Briscoe, Ulis and Lee could all declare for the draft. Floreal could go back to walk-on status.

This would mean, barring a transfer, there would be at-most, 2 scholarships available.

I think you always make room for a 5 star guard if he wants to come. None of our potential returning players next year (assuming the top 6 go, hope they all do NOT GO) would scare me away if I'm Simmons.

I agree with that. According to Rivals he has an offer from us. I am just curious how it works, if Cal called him after we got Monk and Fox and too said "sorry, you're too late."

I hadn't paid any attention to him since we got Monk and Fox but Wenyon Gabriel tweeted him last night and it caught my eye.

My guess is he reluctantly goes with his backup plan OSU on Saturday.

That's what I thought, thanks for the clarification.

On the front page it says Simmons will be deciding soon, I doubt that bolds well for him to pick UK. I'd like to get him and Bolden, though I suppose it's a win- win, if they don't don't come it probably means some key players back.

The other 2 finalists for him are OSU and UNLV. UNLV just got rid of their coach so that leaves OSU. Maybe he feels its a safe bet that 1 of our guards returns next season based on how the season has progressed so far.

I just do not see him coming now. I think Briscoe will be back (no outside shot & cannot hit a f/t to save his life) Hawkins & Matthews will be back so I just don't see him here. ( for got about Mulder)

I wonder what happened to Arizona. He added them to his list and took a visit, then I didn't hear anything else.

He just said that they are still involved with him but his top 3 that is floating out there doeskin include them. I don't know.

I like his game but once we locked up Monk and Fox I assumed Simmons was out of the picture. The only reason why I am even slightly curious about his announcement is the Wenyon tweet I saw last night.

During his call in show on Monday night Cal was asked about recruiting for next year and he stated that we are only after one more big man and we will be done with recruiting for next year. And that we had one guy in particular he really liked (Bolden reading between the lines.) It is being reported that we are still calling Jarrett Allen in case Bolden turns us down but I think the Simmons ship sailed because it appears that either Ullis or Briscoe might return. I believe there was time the staff thought it likely we would lose Ullis, Murray, and Briscoe and we could use another guard but unless Brisoce starts hitting jump shots consistently he isn't going to go 1st round and should return.

I would not be surprised to see Hawkins elect to be a graduate transfer if he were to graduate this Spring or Summer. I could see him getting meaningful minutes at another school. Willis could possibly elect to be a graduate transfer as well if he were to qualify and he feels his minutes would decrease next year. Not saying they will if they were to qualify but just speculating.

Simmons will be a great player, but for the team we'll have next year I'd rather have Ulis and Bolden or Ulis and a senior Lee. We're going to need quality experience to go with the studs coming in ala Darius Miller on the 2012 team.

I'd say Hawkins plays next year. He'll be a senior and he has some real game from what I've seen. If he keeps making shots, there's no real reason to sit the young man.

with what we have coming in I do not see Coach Cal sitting 5 stars based on past history.

My speculation on role players and bench guys from KY is that they stay and take advantage of their UK days and parlay that into a professional career here in the state.

Transferring away definitely dulls the luster.

If we're going to add another guard it needs to be a 5th year transfer .[/QUOTE]

I can't argue that point, I agree with your take.

He going to Arizona. The Arizona uni being in the middle gives it away. He should go well with all those 5 star all American busts they'll have returning next year. Ray Smith, and Justin Simon, and Comanche.

Simmons is not coming here and frankly I would rather he didn't and we keep Ulis and a returning Hawk. His skill set is nice but he looks weak and has a bad rep for shooting. Not in the same class As Fox.
