Five-star guard Kobi Simmons announced Monday night that he has narrowed his list to three schools: Kentucky, Ohio State and UNLV.

Those are the only three schools that have hosted Simmons for official visits, and his father, Demond Stephens, recently said that the family did not plan on taking the other two remaining visits. Stephens did tell the Herald-Leader earlier this month that home-state Georgia was a fourth school in the mix, so the Bulldogs were the only program cut Monday night.

Scout.com ranks Simmons — a 6-foot-5 prospect from Alpharetta, Ga. — as the No. 18 overall player in the class of 2016. He is expected to announce his college decision in time to sign with a school in November.

My opinion...

Cal wants Fox, Monk, Alkins, and Gabriel. He already has Matthews/Mulder/Hawkins for wing depth next year. Simmons might get the nod if he don't get one of the first three aforementioned guys.

It's crazy to not take Simmons if he wants to be here.

Regardless of class size, UK has NEVER had an issue with finding scholarships. Calipari doesn't waste spots, which is a good thing being involved with so many top tier players.

Number of scholarships isn't the issue. It's scaring off better options that worries me. If Fox commits and Monk sees him, Simmons, Mulder, and Matthews trying to get time, it makes it way easier for him to go to Arkansas. I think we get Monk unless we give him a reason to go elsewhere. Simmons is very good but Monk and Fox are both too good to risk scaring off.

I get that and it holds true, however, Cal seems to make it work, and probably uses it to his advantage in recruiting. "You come here, you are getting challenged, but you go to NBA ready." Weve been loaded in certain positions other than the Knight year.

UK is the exception though.

Lets see the list of recruits who have been scared off by other UK commits? It's literally never happened. I'd bet that UK has signed more combos of recruits from the same position in the same class than anyone. Why would it start now? And don't you think Cal and the staff brings this up?

Usually I agree with that. This past year is really the first time that hasn't worked out though. And....it still kinda worked out. Cal's always been picky. He basically quit recruiting guys like CJ Leslie, Quincy Miller, and Chris Walker and ended up with Terrence Jones, Anthony Davis, and Julius Randle those years. Had we taken the first guys who "really wanted to be here" we wouldn't have gotten he superior option.

Now on the flip side, yeah, we kinda got burned this past year, but we still got the #1 class. Now I'm not going to brainlessly repeat "in Cal we trust", but he knows better than we do what kind of chance we have with each kid left. And with the results we've gotten this far, I'm in no position to criticize if he waits on Simmons to see what a couple other kids do.

That's my take. I totally understand those who want to lock Simmons up now though.
