Kevin Knox Sr. on Mizzou visit

The first thing that came into Knox Sr.’s mind when Porter first reached out to his son: “Wow.”

“Can you imagine Michael Porter getting the chance to play with Kevin Knox?” he thought. “That would probably be awesome for Mike to actually have an opportunity to play with another wing of equal talent and go from there.”

If Knox goes to Missouri, they will be a contender. They don't have a ton of depth, but they have a few solid returning players as well. The SEC will be tough, so it's not like Missouri will be at the very top, but to say they win 12 games if they get Knox is just stupid. They will probably win 9 or 10 in the non-conference alone.

I understand why Porter is going there, but Knox? I look at this about the same way as Simmons and Blakeny. They will get theirs, and not make the tournament. If you are planning on being one and done, why would you not go someplace where you get to play in March Madness?

Martin plays slow Tubby ball. Grind it out . Defense,Defense,Defence pass 5 times before you shoot. Don't know why anyone would want to play for him.

A lot of people in STL think Knox ends up at Mizzou. They are apparently very close and the parents are good friends as well with the Porters.

People on here saying Mizzou would still be awful are just dumb. They gave UK everything they could take last year and would have two better players than anyone UK has.

"Another wing of equal talent..." This is an absurd and ignorant statement from his dad, given the amount talent he'd be up against in practice every day at UK would be leagues above anything Mizzou can offer. There's something more to this than just the Porter family connection...

Is the hothead point guard still there? If so I see it going about 1 game with Knox and Porter getting most of the shots before that kid goes postal.

More time to workout for the combines?

If we get Bamba then they will have one player better than anyone else has then so that would be 6 better players overall. Knox would make them better. But not all coaches can win consistently with fresh. Cal has proven he can. So people in St Louis say oh everybody is friends it's a done deal. Knox and Green are closer than Porter and Knox based on what we hear. Young and Porter we're big time buds didn't sway young to go to Washington which would have prob saved Romars job. He may end up there but not sold on Knox being to much better than anyone we got only ranked a couple spots ahead of Washington. Plus I still wouldn't be surprised if he ended up at UK doubful but I think this is just a courtesy visit. He gets five might as well take it.

I don't buy that Knox and Porter are extremely close friends. They were on team USA together and then apparently Porter was able to convince Knox to visit after playing some online pool game together. My sense is that Knox will end up at Duke. Mizzou will be significantly better with Porter, Blake Harris and CJ Roberts coming in. Not sure they make the tournament but they will get close to 20 wins.

Long term success for Mizzou will be far more dependent on Cuonzo Martin than it is on Michael Porter. In the past, Cuonzo has had some moderate success with blue chip recruits as freshman with Jaylen Brown and Ivan Rabb leading Cal to their highest tourney seed in decades. MU cannot build it's program around one and done players. Cuonzo will need to establish a system and prove that he can follow through. There is reason to believe that he has upside as a coach. There's also reason to believe that he's fairly mediocre.

So, you're saying Knox is better than Bamba? Wrong.

Knox to UK ship sailed when we landed Vanderbilt and Washington. Hard for some to understand because Knox is perceived to be better than those two, but that's how it works. Like others have said, I love to see the Missouri thing picking up steam. Makes Duke look pretty bad and makes me wonder about UNC because that looks like the best fit for him from my perspective. He would seemingly have no competition for minutes, then again Roy might sit his ass behind Luke Maye all season. He may have been told to steer clear if he wants to play in the postseason. Guess NIT 3 seed at Missouri is better than nothing.

Is Cuonzo Martin related to Hugh Freeze or did they just go to the same recruiting course?

The bonds that can be made between two 18 year old 5 star athletes via iPhone pool is an incredible tool I never thought Missouri would have. Just goes to show ya, recruiting battles can have the strangest potential deciding factors :joy:

Martin didn't coach Simmons and Blakeney . He did coach Jaylen Brown and Ivan Rabb as one and done caliber freshmen and it worked out pretty well.

With those OAD's his 4 seed was beaten in the 1st round by Hawaii, 13 seed.

Rabb stayed and he then lost in the first round of the NIT this year...

They were 23-11 and lost their first game in the tournament. He also had another McDonalds All American, Jabari Bird, a 6-6 junior guard.

Rabb should have left after his freshman season, a four seed for Cal is pretty good, it's not like the comparison of Simmons and Blakeney, they didn't make the tourney.
If they get Knox to go along with Porter jr. they will be atleast pretty good.

And 2 guys who contribute in multiple ways. They're not just scorers, they're tall, elite athletes.

People are thinking that just because Simmons' and Fultz's teams flopped, it's destined to happen again. It's not. A Porter/Knox combo added to a team that returns everything makes them dangerous. Not top 10 dangerous, but definitely a team with tournament aspirations.
