Starting Frieda? Gives up 1 run in the top half and we look pretty uninterested in the bottom half: 3 up 3 down.

Cotto pitches a 3K 3 batter 2nd, Logue comes in in the 3rd and gets a mistake pitch planted over the left center fence. 2-0 Tennessee Tech.

Game doesn't matter in the grand scheme.
Bullpen game, get your guys work. Tech under Bragga will always be able to hit, their problem this year is terrible pitching. Tech starter tonight is true freshman. Did beat TN in Knoxville for second straight year.

Logue gets a 2nd inning and does better: faces four and only gives a leadoff walk.

Christian Howe gets the top of the 5th and does well. Gets a strike out ground out and fly out. Still 2-2. We managed to put a good 3rd inning in at the plate scoring two on two different pitchers, 3 singles, a walk, and a HBP to score the two.

Gilliam leads off the 5th with a homer. Cats lead 3-2.

Burkes seems to have a hitch that costs him time on his swing. Shouldn't be bringing the bat back as the ball is coming at you.

I’m really excited if the Cats can hold on tonite. People just don’t understand how hard it is to go an entire season and not have a slip up against a lesser team that hurts your resume in one of these mid week games. UK has struggled for years with this.

If the Cats win this game, and it’s looking good in the 6th, then all losses will be to tourney level teams. UK will only have 2 losses outside Q1 and one is to 51 Elon and the other to 75 Wright st. Both Q2 and not considered bad at all. Both of those teams are top teams in their respective leagues.
UKs resume will be sterling if they can split the 6 games v UT and Florida. I think UK is in incredible shape to host a regional now and quite possibly be a top 8 National Seed with a good finish and solid showing in Hoover. UK could host regional and Super until Omaha. Let’s dream big boys!

Walk, single, triple, single, walk, strike out by Pitre (who has struck out twice today and had to pop fouls lost in the lights that landed). 6-2 Kentucky.... Then another pop foul that they do catch. Had runners at 2nd and 3rd no outs and have gotten two outs. Stanke gets a ground rule double to score two more: 8-2

Burkes singles in Stanke to make it 9-2. McCoy singles to right to put two on. but Smith files out.

This entire season has far exceeded my expectations so just making the postseason is good to me. Bringing in all of these non-P5 players for a single year and having them gel is pretty unlikely.

Hagenow really struggles in the top of the 7th. Loads the bases before getting a ground out force at 2nd. I really hate that he is struggling with control at this time of the season. Should have had little pressure but still couldn't find the strike zone consistently.

I'm sorry but midweek is irrelevant. If you win 17 SEC games youre in the conversation of hosting regardless of who you won or lost to midweek. It just doesn't move the needle

I agree with you on the SEC thing. I was just pointing out that we avoided bad losses altogether by taking care of the mid week games. That has killed our resume in past seasons!

This is a bit concerning for him. We are going to need him in the tourney to shut teams down.

Heres a question.......why does Ming continue to roll out Stanke or Burkes at DH when the other is catching?

I have been a proponent of Church for 2 years to get more at bats and he has had some good games this year at DH. He gets a few hits this past weekend and he sits mid week.

Wouldn't we want to give Burkes a break out of the lineup to rest as well?

This. UK has basically assured itself of a top 5 RPI. 3-3 down the stretch ensures a host site and a probable super regional host site (if we win regional). 2-4 should still get us a regional host (but I don't want to leave it to chance).

Hard disagree. While it's true that the weekend (and SEC wins) matter most, just one or two fewer midweek losses last year likely gets us in the tourney (i.e. our RPI would have been much higher).

I'm betting that he wants Burkes to get out of his recent slump. Stanke being a lefty might get the call based on the pitcher. Is anyone else seeing all that extra bat movement and wiggle as hurting Burkes' chances of getting a hit by shaving off milliseconds of reaction time?

Yes, I've noticed this too.

I will say that for about a month, Burkes swing was so bad it was like a golf shot. Tons of lazy fly outs. He is starting to drive the ball again, so hopefully he is on the uptick.
