Why isn't this started? Great play by Gilliam to end the top of the first.

Gray got plunked, Felker doubles him home. Burkes strikes out swinging at high fastballs. Petre walked.

Forgot that Felker took third on a wild pitch. Gilliam strikes out trying to check his swing.

Dayton tried to pick off Pitre and Felker steals home.

Waldschmidt singles to right and Pitre ends up at third. Starting pitcher gone already.

Travis Smith doesn't have good control. Gets a ground out in the 2nd, then plunks one, and walks one, walks another, then gives up a two run single. Smith is done. Giles strikes out 1 and then gets the 2nd to ground out to 2nd. 2-2 after 1 1/2.

Smith gets pulled after giving up 2 in the 2nd inning. Giles in to replace him.

Nove pitching in the top of the 3rd, walks the first, gets the 2nd to hit into a double play, then gets a pop up to end the top of the 3rd.

Bottom of the 3rd we leave two on. We score two. Walk, single, failed pick off moves 'em, sac fly, and a balk gets us our two runs. We leave two more on.

Nove pitching in the 4th, fly out, strike out, single, single, infield single which scores the runner at 3rd, and gets replaced by Byars who walks the bases full, plunks the next batter to score a run. So now it is 4-4.

Felker singles, advances on a wild pitch, Burkes grounds out and moves Felker to 3rd, Pitre takes a called 3rd strike. We get another pitcher from Dayton. One pitch and Hunter Gilliam pops up to squander a leadoff double.

Managed to get out of the top of the 5th without giving up any runs. We had an error on Pitre in the mix with a single. We then get up and ground out, fly out, and ground out to the pitcher.

Cotto in the 6th, promptly walks the first batter he faces, (8 free passes so far for Kentucky) gives up an infield single, gets a called 3rd strike (two high change ups), gets a ground out to 2nd, and a pop up. Seems like Cotto is struggling to pitch strikes. That called strike two and three were both at the top of the strike zone if not above.

Grant Smith gets a leadoff double, Gray walked, Felker bunts to 3rd to move the runners up, Burkes gets hit by a pitch, so Pitre is up with bases loaded and one out. Gosh! They reversed the call and called Burkes out for leaning into the pitch. Pitre rescues with a first pitch single to right to score two. 6-4 Kentucky. New pitcher for Dayton.

They intentionally walk Gilliam, walk Waldschmidt to load the bases. McCarthy comes up and they are changing the pitcher for him. He singles to right to score two. Waldschmidt gets called out at home, trying to score when McCarthy got caught between first and second. So 8-4 Kentucky.

Cotto pitching in the top of the 7th gives up a leadoff single and a ground rule double. Cotto should be done. Bringing in Seth Logue who gives up an infield single to score one run. 8-5 Cats. Next batter strikes out swinging. Next strikes out looking. Then the Flyers fly out.

I'm just not sensing the intensity from the Kentucky players.

Bottom of the 7th, Stanke gets HBP's, Grant Smith sac bunts him to 2nd, Gray flies out to center but the fielder drops it so 2nd and 3rd with one out. Felker gets HBP'd to load them with one out. Burkes walks making the score 9-5. New pitcher again. Pitre just clips the top of the ball and Dayton forces Gray at home for the 2nd out. Wow! Dayton tries to run the hidden ball play by not giving the ball to the pitcher. They get called for a balk scoring a run. Gilliam gets intentionally walk, and Waldschmidt gets HBP'd scoring another run, 11-5. Bases loaded and two outs. McCarthy gets a two run single, 13-5. Another new Dayton pitcher. McCarthy gets caught stealing (by a mile) to end the inning. Still 13-5 Kentucky.

Frieda in to pitch the top of the 8th. This is a long game. He promptly walks the first batter on 4 pitches. What a bad start... Then K's the next two batters on 3 pitches. Then a lineout to end the top of the 8th. We have 7 walks and 2 HBP's to offset our 9 strikeouts. Not exactly the staff's best effort so far.

Bottom of the 8th, Stanke gets plunked, Grant Smith gets called out on a very questionable third strike, Gray gets called out on a third strike too, Felker gets plunked, Burkes flies out. That gets us to 11 LOB.

Reed Gannon makes his debut pitching for the Cats. Walks the first batter he faces. I'm sure they told him to throw strikes. Sheesh!! He plunks the 2nd batter, walks the next. Our lead is not safe...

Christian Howe brought in. We may be setting up for a ninth inning come back.

He gets a strikeout, and a sac fly to make it 6-13. Induces a ground out to Gilliam pitching to Howe for the final out. This wasn't the sharpest effort from the pitching staff but a lot of seldom used pitchers got in tonight.

I was at the game, here are my observations:

-Absolutely fantastic (and large) crowd for a midweek game against a bad team. As the beer flowed, they got louder.

-I liked that we gave Burkes a break from catching and played stanke (who is just as competent, if not moreso) behind the plate

-starting pitcher was terrible, but both teams used an army of relief. We don't have any overwhelming starter, but our pitching depth is outstanding. Giles and Byers came in and did their job, as did Nove. Freida looked terrible but then recovered and started mowing them down. Gannon had a horrible debut, but hopefully learns from it. I love that we go into the weekend with all of our key pieces available.

-UK used to regularly lose games like this. As it stands, we have no "bad losses" left on the schedule. The key now is taking care of business in the "should win" SEC series against A&M and Georgia, and then holding our own against the rest.
