Im really curious how UF does this year without Donovan. They still have enough talent to be a top 25 team but its a new coach so who knows.
Do they have enough talent? I thought the cupboard was bare. (I do admit I haven't looked at their roster or even read anything about them. (didn't when Billy was there either.

They have Hill , Chiozza, D. Walker, Finney-Smith and Alex Murphy. Those 5 alone should be top 25 worthy if their coach is good enough.
Not the least bit surprised LSU got in over A&M with returning Hornsby, Gray, and Quarterman while adding Simmons, Blakeney, Sampson, and Victor. That's some serious firepower there. THey are pretty weak at the 4 and 5 outside of Simmons, but I fully expect to see them run Simmons at C some and running some sort of five-out offense

Yeah, they got us hands down in those areas. I suggest we not even enter the competition. We'll just play basketball.
Love me some UK, but if we really deserve this ranking, it is a testament to just how far college basketball has fallen. I expect UK to be a strong team and win a lot of games, but the preseason favorite to win the title (tied)? Not too many years ago, I suspect this team would not have been a preseason top 10... Don't get me wrong, a title in a "Down Year" still counts (just ask Louisville 2013 and Duke 2010 to name a couple). I am thrilled that the coaches think that highly of this team and I hope we meet UNC in the title game in April. They might have a lot of pressure to win that game as this might be their last season eligible for the tourney for a while if the NCAA ever gets off its hands!
Duke is ranked too high. We should be more around the 10-12 range in my opinion.

Why the insult? He's got a point. Calipari himself says we will stink at the beginning of the season. I get it, Calipari is trying to motivate his team. But there will be an improvement curve while the freshmen adjust to the speed of the college game and Poythress completes his recovery. This ranking just puts a bullseye on us in November and December. March is the money month.
How far back you talkin'? You know I think too many people sensationalize just how good cbb was in the 90's and 2000's. There were some good teams back then that were better than everyone else (96 cats) but every year there is a large contingent of people on this board that say "college basketball is down this year". Well wait, how can it be down every year? I don't think it is. I think AAU makes these players better at a younger age. Everyone says those teams from the 90's had juniors and seniors, yeah, they did, know why? Because they weren't good enough to go pro.
I think this team and all but 1 of Cal's teams since he's been here would compete and be very successful playing in the 90's. Just because these guys are young doesn't mean they can't be better than senior Laden teams from the 90's.

That's the Coaches poll, right not the AP? At least we're co #1's this year with UNC. Why would I say at least? Did you realize UK is already the only program to be ranked pre-season #1 2 years in a row and fail to win a title either year? I'd rather not have the opportunity to make it 3. Much rather be ranked pre season #4, and finish #1. It's not where we start that matters. It's where we finish.

And while a title is obviously preferable, playing in consecutive FF's ain't no small thing. Please try to remember that it was not very long ago at all when UK completed it's 12 consecutive year without making the FF.
I will say that yes, if Cal wants to own this era, and not just be in contention for best of the era, then another title needs to come soon. Starting out preseason #1 is not a bad way to go, though. And it perpetuates success. It reinforces the idea that UK is the best program in college basketball, and that (obviously) appeals to a big chunk of the top recruits.
