nah, that class was somewhat overrated. This class is noticeably better.
In theory.
But you're right, and I've never understood why some people insist on using player rankings done prior to the players ever playing in college as some sort of test for what was or wasn't a great recruiting class. I guess you kind of have to look at that, because it plays into the "recruiting" part of it, but the real test is how good those players are in college and beyond. Michigan's Fab 5 is legendary not just because of where those guys were rated coming out of HS (there have now been many other classes where schools signed a similar number of similarly rated guys), but because of how they played in college, and because 3 of them went on to become long-term, all-star caliber or near it NBA players.
The 2013 class overall, not just UK's part of it, looks to be overrated. It was supposed to be a class that produced multiple future NBA studs, but so far, the only guy really headed in that direction is Wiggins (and he's hardly a game-changer yet). It's not even a sure thing that the class will produce all that many productive NBA players, let alone all-stars.
2014, OTOH, is looking underrated (though it's still way early). Karl Towns is a stud, Okafor, whatever his flaws, is going to be very good, and there are multiple other guys who look like they have a bright future in the pros (Devin Booker being another one of those).
On paper, and in terms of raw physical ability, the 2016 class (especially UK's chunk of it) appears to have huge potential. But the reality is that we need to wait 2-3 years to really have even an initial feel for that.
