Kentucky is No. 1 in ESPN’s new class rankings for 2016; Duke is No. 2.

Thread 2,323 this season on class ranking. We need to quit obsession about these class rankings. It's completely objective, every site, blog, writer, and Jim Tom can rank them however they want and people just go nuts if they don't agree.

Quit obsessing on recruiting rankings? Hell, that's what a message board is for!

Well truthfully I don't care if they rank our class 351st because I'm quite alright with the class we've got thus far [smoke]

Umm, you guysrealize that we're ranked first, not Duke. That being said I believe in the ESPN bias for Duke, I just don't understand why some are making a big deal and acting like some are freaking out. The only ones freaking out in this thread are the ones always saying chill out, while they're the only one making a big deal out of nothing lol!

This is pretty surprising. I was sure ESPN would find some way to spin it and keep Duke as number one to fit their Duke is dominating recruiting narrative.

Will go down as the 2nd greatest recruiting class ever in college basketball history next to Cal's 2013 class unless of course we land 2 more 5 stars to make 7 then it might be the greatest.

Yet, you clicked on the thread. Or, did someone have a gun to you're head and make you?

If we still had Tubby, we would be looking at that level of a recruiting class. Those days are etched in my brain watching what seemed like every team getting a Top 50 kid.

Anyone seen that great athlete Michael Porter lately? AJ Stewart? Mike Williams?

Oh, and what a great link to listen to Tubby explain his recruiting philosophy.

Don't be stating gun. It "ain't" PC. If you state gun some may take offense to stating gun or be harmed by stating gun or have their feelings hurt if you state gun, so don't state or use the word gun. Never state gun again on a message board. Got it? No guns.:gun::gun::gun::gun::gun::gun::gun::gun::gun::gun::gun::gun::gun::gun::gun::gun: and a couple of these...too...:eek::eek::chairshot::chairshot::gun::gun::gun:...

nah, that class was somewhat overrated. This class is noticeably better.

In theory.

But you're right, and I've never understood why some people insist on using player rankings done prior to the players ever playing in college as some sort of test for what was or wasn't a great recruiting class. I guess you kind of have to look at that, because it plays into the "recruiting" part of it, but the real test is how good those players are in college and beyond. Michigan's Fab 5 is legendary not just because of where those guys were rated coming out of HS (there have now been many other classes where schools signed a similar number of similarly rated guys), but because of how they played in college, and because 3 of them went on to become long-term, all-star caliber or near it NBA players.

The 2013 class overall, not just UK's part of it, looks to be overrated. It was supposed to be a class that produced multiple future NBA studs, but so far, the only guy really headed in that direction is Wiggins (and he's hardly a game-changer yet). It's not even a sure thing that the class will produce all that many productive NBA players, let alone all-stars.

2014, OTOH, is looking underrated (though it's still way early). Karl Towns is a stud, Okafor, whatever his flaws, is going to be very good, and there are multiple other guys who look like they have a bright future in the pros (Devin Booker being another one of those).

On paper, and in terms of raw physical ability, the 2016 class (especially UK's chunk of it) appears to have huge potential. But the reality is that we need to wait 2-3 years to really have even an initial feel for that.

I know that these ratings are subjective and ridiculous, but I have to admit it made me smile to see that Kansas isn't doing so well.
