Personally, I think it's much more important this year to find out what we can rely on next year than to win the bowl game. Do we have a QB on the roster who can be QB1? Do we have young OL who will fill the gaps and become a better version than this year's BBW? Inside LBs? Cover corners? I'd rather see several of the young OL rotate in and play significant snaps in the bowl game than only play the starters so we can win. O want to see Sheron and Wade play a lot and be asked to run as much of the offensive system as possible. Really get a good evaluation of both guys.

If we win we're 8-5, not top 25. If we lose, we're 7-6, not top 25. If we don't have real time evaluations of the returning roster, I think we lose in either case.

Mark Stoops already knows the answers to all those questions. You and I will find out soon enough. Let’s go win the damn game.

As Herm Edwards said, "You play to win the game." If your not going to play to win, decline the bowl invitation. The extra practice time is nice, but Spring practice will come soon enough.

I'm not convinced that he does. I mean, we rolled Wohlabaugh out as starting LT in the first game and he proved that he wasn't ready. Plenty of examples of guys who look great in practice (or terrible) and are completely opposite once the bright lights hit them.

Based on the ridiculously thin playbook Sheron was allowed to execute vs So Car, I don't see how the staff 'knows' what he's capable of against a live opponent. For sure, they have no idea if Wade would struggle or rise to the occasion.

I have no confidence the staff and team will see it my way but I'd use this time to see exactly what I've got coming back next year, win or lose. We may find a playmaker or two who was buried. Or a QB who can make the quick decisions or exhibit some other characteristic that we can use next year. Or an OL who is particularly nasty once he's playing against an opponent and not a teammate and needs to be reevaluated.

So Bama losing in the playoffs doesn't count?

I was wondering about this too.

It's like they count the semifinals as a bowl game but the national title isn't counting.

I'd rather make the playoff and lose the title some of those years then win the who gives a crap bowl though.

There are several programs with 4 Bowl wins in-a-row, but only Bama (7) and Kentucky have 4 wins (or more) all successive years. Minnesota has won 5 in-a-row, but failed to go bowling twice during that streak.

Current
Alabama 7 years - 2015 .. 2021
Minnesota 5 years - 2015 .. 2021
Kentucky 4 years - 2018 .. 2021
Northwestern 4 years - 2016 .. 2021

This is a very impressive and important accomplishment because Stoops has succeeded in building a new football culture in Lexington. But you will have to convince the Stoops haters that bowls matter.

They won a bowl game to get to the title game.
And lost the title game. Is there some rule that says those don't count for Bama? Their fans seem to think those 2 losses they have this year mean nothing. T hey mean something to everyone else

Alabama lost to Georgia last year there streak ended

A playoff game is not the same as the Liberty Bowl. The only people that care about a win in Memphis are the fans of the teams playing...and some of them could care less as well. I agree that we are much better off letting new guys get some reps. If we were in a better bowl, I would feel differently. And no, I don't know where the line is for a good vs bad bowl...I just know the Liberty is near the bottom. I also don’t believe winning 5 consecutive bowls is important. It’s great, but not one of those records people really hang their hat on.

So everything but the championship is a bowl game so the championship losses don’t count… 👌

So the basketball team in 2014 didn’t lose a single game in the tournament because they only lost in the championship… 👌

I believe if we win especially and if we play a top-25 team we will be rated in the top-25 remember half the teams are going to lose.
