Kentucky Basketball Recruiting Roundtable: Who next commitment will be

LOL at the guy who said UK wouldn't get any more fall signees . Monk is the only guy who is for sure waiting til the spring . In fact I assume our recruiting will be mostly done by November . Bridges , Fox , Kilyea-Jones and Simmons could easily be the fold by then and we would just need a SG and one more big in the spring .

Just an opinion, but I believe Cal may have moved on from Simmons, and his vision may be of Fox and Monk in the same backcourt. FWIW, I think you will see Monk sign early, if this is the case. I just believe Cal is not going to plat the waiting game like he did last year. He doesn't need to. It is a simple equation for recruits. If you can see yourself succeeding under Cal, then you can take your place next to Wall, Cousins, Knight, Kidd - Gilchrist, and Davis as a multimillionaire before you are twentyfive. If you want to jack up twenty shots a game, go play for Ben Howland.

This may be the kiss of death to Kentucky's recruiting class. Everyone you guaranteed would end up at Kentucky in the last class, went elsewhere.

Self on road: KU coach Bill Self on Tuesday night visited the home of Malik Monk, a 6-4 senior guard from Bentonville (Arkansas) High, who is ranked No. 6 nationally. Monk will visit KU for Late Night in the Phog on Oct. 9. He’s also considering Kentucky, North Carolina, Arkansas, Florida State and Oregon.

Can Kansas steal this kid from the grasps of Arkansas (or Kentucky)?

I'd imagine not.

That might be the dumbest thing I've read related to UK recruiting. Fox and Simmons are headed for a fall announcement and I'm betting that Cal didn't ask them to wait until the season is over because he knows for certain he would miss out on a player at the position. Also I'm not saying it wouldn't happen but Alkins has a 1% chance if that to be our next commitment. It would almost certainly have to be either Simmons or Bridges because of their time frame.

The only way Monk signs/commits early is if it's to Arkansas. He's still got to live in the state so no way he commits to UK early. IMO.

Think Alkins is staying in NC now? Adidas connection?

Interesting point. Hadn't thought of it like that. But you think Cal will try to get him to commit early?

I think the next commit will be Bridges, followed by Fox. Or at least I hope thats what happens. I would love to see a Fox, Mulder backcourt, and one of them needs the nickname of "The Truth".

Mulder off the bench? Sure. He isn't starting over Monk, assuming we get Monk.

The Truth has been given to Paul Pierce, no one is touching that.

JMO, but Simmons seems to be wavering on his announced commitment date, so I believe he may have felt like Kentucky cooled on him a bit. I am merely speculating about Monk, but Arkansas seems to be becoming a cluster, and he doesn't have to go public with his commit anyway. If Cal has built a relationship with the kid, it would also include trust. Cal said earlier that he may get his best class ever this year, so I am betting on a Bridges, Fox, Monk trifecta.

You can't ever say "no" to this. Teenagers make funny decisions. These recruits seem to buy into the "Self develops players" line.

If I was going to put my $$$$multi-million career in the hands of a coach, there's only two I would ever consider. Calipari or K. Only if those two didn't want me would I consider the next level down Izzo, Self, Miller, or Matta.

This is what I think is likely to happen...

Bridges and Fox commit this fall.

Since we'll have Mulder and Matthews coming back, Cal can let Monk take all the time he needs.
