Kentucky at Georgia (Sunday)

I imagine this is the lineup you'll see going forward and they'll just flip Rubalcaba and Kessler at DH and C.

Georgia got a man to third but Lee gets a K to end the inning.

UK almost gave up the run as Anu failed to hit the cutoff man. Most teams seem fairly unafraid of running against our OF arms.

Our shift hurt us. Had a chance to get out of it but we had shifted. What would have been a routine double play with a normal defense ended up being a single and then a HR followed it.

Going to bottom 3 with UK up 4-3. Two out hits for UK! Real proud of that.

UK makes a mental error with 1 out as Rhodes catches a foul ball in right that allows UGA to tag and tie the game.

A fly that Rhodes cant get to is a double that UGA scores on from first.

4-5 bottom 3

Anu and Ritter collide and it allows 2 more to score. Ritter slow to get up. Ritter had the ball but Anu never saw him.

I think both Ritter and Anu stayed in the game, so that's the positive.

UK loaded them and got one back but couldn't do more with them loaded. 5-10

Georgia with 17 runs on 15 hits or some crap like that. Frankly... we're not good.

What’s it honestly going to take to get mingione canned? The guy is clearly in over his head here.

I really think it comes down to this week. Anything less than 2-2 and Barnhart will have to take a serious inventory of where this program will be two years from now......and I just don’t think that is a pretty image.

I’ll be honest I don’t keep track of baseball recruiting (mainly because it’s such a difficult animal to follow with only having 11.25 scholarships, transfers who don’t have to sit out, heavy influence with JUCOS and the ability to go pro right out of high school). But I can’t imagine that there is enough talent in the pipeline right now to give us any kind of real shot in the arm for next year. So at best next year will be just like this year.....at best, which again is not good. So even if Mingione is back next year he will be “dead mam walking”.

So in short the contract extension he was given at the beginning of the year was mainly done to keep recruiting afloat through the year. To see if enough progress on the field can be made to give recruits an idea he would still be here. But the last two weekends (LSU & Georgia) have just shown what little talent we really have. Loosing the upcoming home series to Alabama, a team just like us, should be the final nail in his coffin.

Guess I’m just trying to prepare myself for a very long two years.

I have met Mingione and spoken to him several times. I really like him personally and I hope he can turn it around. I think we’ll be worse next year. I assume we lose Schultz, Rhodes, Anu and Ritter to the draft. Collett is a senior and gone. Estep and Church probably only returning starters. I just don’t see how we get better. I’m still skeptical that UK is “all in” except for basketball. I know we have a new stadium. Maybe I have been around too long to change, who knows. If we blow up and get swept by Vandy, Florida and Tennessee I don’t see how you can keep Mingione. I guess we’ll see.

Looks like there is a lot more than those listed to lose.
Next question is who will stay around next year? The rule on transferring has been approved; that’s a major game changer.

You have a good point. Either way I don’t see how we are going to improve on this year next year.

I think you may very well see a mass exodus of players from this team. I just don't think that Mingione is great to the players and that he's created a lot of dislike and distrust in those players.

For instance... Zeke Lewis returned for his last year at UK after losing much of 2020. He's a senior that is a good defender and has speed to burn. He is also well liked amongst the team. He is from Atlanta, Georgia. This past weekend UK went to Athens and some of his family planned to attend to see him play. UK opted not to take him on the trip. So, even if he hadn't played, some of his family couldn't see him or interact with him after a game or before or just see him lace them up for UK one last time. Just a horrible way to treat a guy who has played for UK since 2016... he's been on UK longer than Mingione has even been here and Ming doesn't reward him at all for that loyalty and hard work.

I don't personally know what effect this had on Lewis or his family and whether he was upset about it or just let it slide or whatever, but I imagine (just pure speculation) that he was upset about it and that his family was upset about it. When you treat a player like that you show very little loyalty and then many of those guys won't want to be loyalty to you.

I think the coach(es) have pretty poor communication skills and do not communicate to the players. So, if they make a decision the player isn't really talked to a whole lot about it... it just happens and the player is left wondering what happened and why. When that occurs fingers start getting pointed and resentment sinks in. For instance... Plastiak lost his starting job after just 1 game. 1. Church came in and did great, but it took a long time of Church struggling to hit (3 of his last 35 in league play I believe) before Plastiak got another chance to really unseat him. So, why did Plastiak lose his role after 1 game, but Church got every chance in the world to prove himself? If the coaches aren't communicating with Plastiak on why he was benched and what he needs to do then Plastiak is going to get increasingly frustrated with Church and the staff and it is going to erode the clubhouse.

I also feel like the fall was irrelevant. You have Schultz in the IF all fall and basically the last minute in the spring, with just a couple weeks before the season, you switch him to OF... where they absolutely refuse to move him from in any situation. That is fine and all, but those guys in the OF that were competing and doing well lost their job to a guy who barely knows how to play out there. This despite telling them all fall that the emphasis is on defense.

I could go on with this rant, but I think you get the point.

BTW... another person that was left in Lex this weekend was Ramsey. Just found that interesting.
