Could have been a couple of slots higher, but something to build on.

I’m 58: this is the 5th time we have finished ranked in my lifetime.

Pre-Bowl, we were a slotted right next to Arkansas and A & M, and Arky beat PSU convincingly in the Outback, 24-10, yet finished below us at 21st.

We finished as the 4th ranked SEC team trailing only Georgia, Bama and Ole Miss. A & M finished 26th in the voting after sitting out bowl season.

We will do better in the coaches poll if they have one but top 20 somewhere is fine by me

I like the accomplishments this past year, and will not be surprised to see Stoops gear up and get his team to reach higher levels next year.
Where are our biggest weaknesses that we need to fill? Sounds like our defense will be younger, but that's not a bad thing. These guys just worked themselves into this 18 slot and deserve their success.

Michigan that high in any poll is quite amusing. They were awful and it looked like they don't even give scholarships to QBs. They didn't show up after plenty of prep time. They should have dropped our of the top 10.

And seriously, he has us as the 3rd best SEC team.....amazing. Man, he's not a big Kiffin fan is he?

Sounds about right. The 2018 team finish 12 and I don’t think this team was as good as that one

Have to politely disagree, Levis-Wandale-C Rod were as a group considerably better than Wilson-Bowden-Snell. Not close IMO.

2018 had the edge on defense, due to Josh Allen and the secondary, but the 2021 defense were no slouches, held 9 opponents to 23 points or less (I think), and most of those 9 under 20 points. Louisville got their last TD with 9 seconds left, so that really should have been under 20 as well.

I will say Penn State was better than Iowa, vastly superior at QB for one, but I doubt the 2018 team could have won the Citrus with 6 or 7 starters out, like we did last weekend

But it is a fun debate, for sure

Can't disagree...it's such a close debate between the 2018 vs. 2021.

I don’t think you can limit the distinction between the 2018 defense and the 2021 defense by an “edge.” The chasm is bigger dan dat.

I'm 57, and been a UK Football fan for as long as I can remember. Here is how I would rank the top 6 seasons for UK football during my lifetime (not necessarily the best teams in order, mostly based on how enjoyable the season was overall):

#1 - 2018
#2 - 2021
#3 - 1977 (still the best UK team in my lifetime)
#4 - 1984 (from 0 wins to 9, it looked like good times were ahead under Coach Claiborne)
#5 - 2007 (beat #1 LSU and probably the best all around offense in my lifetime)
#6 - 1998 (Couch led us to the Outback Bowl with an exciting offense)

Any time Kentucky finishes in the top 25, it's a great football season. They were 1 victory against Tennessee away from probably finishing even higher especially if they got the Sugar Bowl and beat Baylor, which I think they could have done.
One missed facemask call away from beating Tennessee. Tennessee defender about pulled Levis' head off and the refs were like

Definitely a fun debate.

I wonder what 2018 would've been like with this year's Levis, Weaver, Ox, and WanDale

Gotta agree. That streak ending victory against Florida on the road was a thing of beauty. Crazy how little light there is between UK and Florida in football now under Stoops. Same goes for Tennessee. Those two teams owned our soul for decades.
Georgia still does but that is the next really tough mountain to climb.

I'm right there with ya. Spent a lot of dejected long walks back across Cooper Drive through the years waiting for a time like this.

Thats a great list and pretty much dead on mine in terms of enjoyment. Feel bad for the younger folks who couldnt experience 1977-78. We have been real bad before that too and it was a different feeling than these past few years where we've earned respect and had fun. That year we flat our walked around like we were the bullies on the block withour chest out. If we had been able to finish it with a bowl game that would move up to number the number one spot for sure.

If I counted the teams correctly (and I'm drinking Dragontooth Stout tonight, so counting is difficult), Kentucky would beat the shit out of the next 6 teams above them in this final poll. So it can go Smurf itself.

We won 6 games in 1983 but good list. It was 1982 that we were 0-10-1.
