We play ; Zags, dUKe, Bama twice, and Auburn. Those teams are 2,3,4,and 5 in Pomeroy's ratings system this morning. Taking in the fact we play the Vols twice, Florida, A&M, Ole Miss, Texas ... and that's a gauntlet of 11 games vs. ranked teams in a year our conference is stacked. Plus, we get Ohio State and lil brother too. That's a solid schedule any way you cut it.
Our team is talented and capable enough to beat any single one of those teams on any given day. We will surely lose some of them as well, as to be expected. But we're going to win and do so in impressive fashion. I can see this team earning a 3 seed when it's all said and done. This team is going to exceed expectations, for a change ! And maybe they won't, and it's wildly speculative at this point to even go there. But hey, we're fans !
I really am rejuvenated and happy for our program, folks ! What an awesome start to a new era in UK hoops !

We have plenty of chances for great resume wins this year. Just got to go out and get them. We will definitely drop some games but I like where this team can go.
Antonio Reeves is going to be a bench player at best
Ken Pom is irrelevant at this point in the season. It shouldn't be mentioned again until about Jan 1.
You know what's great again is we will show up to each of those games like we did in the 90's fighting till the end!

Regardless of what we saw last night, it was against Wright State. I fully anticipate we lose 10-12 games this year. Feel free to bash. JMO.

Not at chance. This team checks all the boxes.
Better chance we go 40-0 than lose 10-12.
Plus, we will only get better and better as all these unfamiliar players learn to gel as Pope leads them!
I'm not so sure. Look at the above list of "quality opponents" (putting that in quotations to say that we don't know for sure about some of them yet). Now, we're good enough that we ought to have a good shot to go .500 against that. There are 13, so let's round up and say 7 losses against that group. Maybe drop another in there somewhere. That's only 8. I think that's very fair for this group, and they have a shot at doing better than that even.
I doubt we'll win the SEC or NCAA so that's two more, which would be 10 losses. That's why I said 10-12.
I agree. I watched Ohio St-Texas and Baylor - Gonzaga. It will be very difficult to win against the 3 that we play. Texas may, at this point, be the weakest of the 3 but our game is at Texas.
I hope Pope has better success than the previous coach when we play Top ranked teams. He already wants his players to go for the throat and end it early, I have a feeling that we are going to lose some but not choke in the last 4 minutes and get tight. We are going down shooting if we lose, not playing the weave for 15 seconds every time down the floor.
I'll never understand how anyone can watch other teams play against other teams and then deduct that our team won't be able to match up, especially in the first week of the season.
Match ups vary. I don't know many people, if any, that can watch two teams play each other and somehow accurately deduce that UK will not match up against those two teams.
I think worst case, assuming we remain fully healthy, we lose 7-9 games and get to the S16. Best case is obvious, but a "better" case might be a better W/L record and E8. I'm only saying this based on what I've seen so far, and yes it's against lower competition. The 2nd exhibition start had me very worried - they looked lazy and like an overmatched BYU team. But Pope must have said something because very shortly after I posted in the game thread that they looked like BYU, they blew up.
Yesterday they came out ready, albeit still a little slow on the start. This is to be expected as this new team probably needs a few mins at the start of each game figuring out the opponent's style and game plan. It's nice, though, to have a coach that clearly appears to make adjustments. Last night was awesome - if they are going to give you the lane, you take the lane, you don't settle on threes. Huge promising moment there in my mind.
