He has the potential to be a really special player - a guy who can do anything. He can knock down the open three, push a fast break coast to coast for a dunk, or block your center at the rim. I hope this is the year he puts it all together.

Some say you need 3 legit dudes to be a title team, UK will have 4, Brooks is the 4th. Everyone seems to forget about him.
Getting Sarr was incredibly huge for this team, it allows Brooks to play the 4 and do his thing. He got a taste of what can happen when you play aggressively in that Florida game. I expect a PJ Washington type jump his sophomore year. I know it's unfair to put that on Brooks, but I think he's good for it.

P.J. Washington 2.0 -- with an upgrade as a running buddy. I loved Reid Travis, but he was no Olivier Sarr.
I agree with you but we are always counting our freshman stars before they hatch. So I would say we possibly have 4 legit dudes.
This is the very first time we have ever heard stories like this. Truly groundbreaking.
How often have we been let down by guards who were top 5, 6, 7ish in the country?
Sometimes bigs take a little longer, and non-elite guards aren't always ready, but I think we're in for a treat with four really nice players and a wealth of solid surrounding pieces.
i don't expect any All Americans necessarily, but a bunch of all conference level guys who could certainly be best in the country by March.
Looking for PJ Washington freshman year's type number, but probably better defensively.

There aren't too many top 10 kids that didn't show out at UK. Skal is the only one that comes to mind. You can look at Clarke & Boston and know that they are going to be really good next year.
Because he's obviously never heard of it before. Did you not read what he said? This is news to him.
he makes plays. he was probably our best offensive rebounder last year in terms of opportunities. he generally had one stick back a game. and he was the only player capable of doing that on the weak side for us. if he’s muscling up he’s going to have a big year crashing the glass opposite saar.
Brooks with about 20 more pounds is going to be a problem for CBB. He's got sneaky good hops and his confidence was starting to build. Excited to see what he can do.
I mean many would consider the Twins not elite, Poythress, Whitney, James Young. I probably missed some but many thought they would go lottery and it didn’t happen. All of those coming in were expected to play positions 1-4. Like I said I think they will be good I just think we always count stars before they are actually stars.

At the very least you can't count on brooks for D and boards.

Poythress certainly isn't a guard. He came in like 6-8 230 with a skillset to match. He definitely doesn't fit the mold I'm describing.
The Twins had stumbles throughout the regular season, but they carried that team in March to a Final Four through probably the worst region that the NCAA has devised in the modern era. Even with the rough start, Andrew ended with over an 2:1 A:TO and was steady as a rock in March. Aaron in March, well.. I think everyone remembers. As a bonus, they piloted one of the greatest teams of all time the next year. They definitely held up their end of the bargain.
Young, while not a memorable personality, is certainly not a great example either. He was good from the beginning, and the second best player on that first final four team. 14/4/2/1 with 2 TOs as a freshman isn't the best we've seen here, but it's really friggin' impressive. And his rankings were 11/11/10, so he doesn't apply to my point anyways.
Whitney was a 3, but I'll lump him into the 2/3 ambiguous range for the sake of conversation. And hey, I'll throw in a very similar example for fun: Diallo.
These guys demonstrate my point exactly. A big can be top 5 just based on potential. But if you're guard sized, all the tools in the world won't put you in the top 5 conversation without a skillset. Those guys always end up around 10 at best - exactly where both Diallo and Whitney ended up.
Whitney was ranked 12, 14, and 11 on the three recruiting sites. Hamidou was similar, although his rankings have been removed because he switched classes at an awkward time.
Again, Cal has really never had a guard who ended high school in the conversation for top 5 who didn't eventually come up big as a freshman (even if it took some longer than others).
They have all ended up being indispensible to his rosters by March.
That's not to say that one of the new guys couldn't be the first.
I'm just saying that if you made it into the top 5 or so with a 6'6 or under frame, you most likely have the skillset to cause major problems at the college level.
You’re using this top 5ish range like it’s a guaranteed star. And it’s simply not the case. While most of the players I listed one pretty good players for us, they were not the stars they were expected to be which is what was mentioned.

And exactly 1 of your 4 examples was a top 5 player. How about this, only a single player has been ranked ahead of Boston or Clarke in the last 4 classes, Fox. That's it. Now you get 2 guys on the same roster?? Here are the top 5 guys Cal has had: Wall, Cousins, Knight, Davis, MKG, Noel, Randle, Andrew Harrison, KAT, Skal. Thats 10, and exactly 1 of them didnt pan out. Outside the top 5 becomes more dicey, but generally Guards perform better as freshmen than forwards, who perform better than centers. Clarke is the non top 5 player of the 2, and Meyers thinks hes the best 2 guard hes ever seen.
I understand pessimism after the last few recruiting classes, but this is one to get excited about.
I mean, did anybody say this was groundbreaking? Or is it just a topic of discussion? Being contrary on purpose is just weird.
