This guy has the potential to be a fan favorite. He's got great self-awareness and humility, acknowledging his struggles and perhaps his lack of effort in the classroom in high school. Kentucky and other schools stayed away a couple of years back because he was not even close to qualifying.

He relayed a story to me that was interesting. His "wake up call" was his senior year in high school. A coach from Louisville had actually gone up to Lakota West to offer after practice. They looked at his grades and said no matter what he did the rest of the year there was no way he was going to qualify. From that point, gradually, he's been picking it up. Laughed and said nobody believes him but he's actually doing his homework every day.

He knows that 6-foot-6 receivers are becoming common for Kentucky in terms of recruiting these days -- mild overstatement -- but believes that his extra years of maturity give him an edge and he still plans to enroll in January of '16. Says he expects to be okay academically. Just has to keep grinding day by day.

His spring break at JUCO in Arizona starts in a couple of days. He will visit UK when he returns to Ohio.
