KAT wasn't an all-star this year.

Anyone remember the thread from a few months ago about whether or not Wiggins is a bust? Hahaha made no sense then, makes even less sense now.

Kat will be an all-star soon.

He needs another top notch teammate to be legit.

KAT and Wiggins will dominate the league in 3-4 years when the old guard is on its way out.

Yesterday kind of proves that Wiggins needs to be the 6th man if anything.

His overall efficiency is still below 17...which isn't "going to take over the league" numbers. He can still improve but there is something to be said about the fact that after 3 years, he really has not improved in any other category than scoring.

Kat is carrying a team by himself.

As typical with this board, complete overstatement. No one in that thread was calling him a bust. The question then, and the question that's still valid, is whether he was and is overrated. Because as of right now, he's a completely one-dimensional scorer. He doesn't rebound well, he doesn't pass it well, he doesn't stand out at all on defense. He's not a huge 3 point threat. His 16.8 PER is 92nd in the league, his value added 42nd.

There's a reason Minnesota is still going to lose 50 games, and I think it's a lot more fair to question Wiggins about that than it is KAT, who is better at EVERYTHING, and more efficient to boot.

When Wiggins went #1 overall, were you expecting another Harrison Barnes? How about a slightly better version of Kevin Martin? Because that's what he looks like right now. Maybe DeMar DeRozan as he matures. What he doesn't look like are the elite forwards of the last 15 years- LeBron, Carmelo, Durant, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and so on. Every one of those guys was a significantly better all-around player than Wiggins by the end of their 3rd season.

Good post. He's certainly not a bust. Overrated coming out of high school? Most certainly. We do have to remember that while he is finshing up his 3rd year he is still only what 21, 22 years old? Lots of people were calling John Wall overrated at that point in career and now he's an upgraded frontcourt away from being an MVP candidate.

I like the DeRozan comparison. Wiggins could do alot worse and he is taller and longer. Wiggins is going to be a scoring machine in this league for years to come and still has alot of room for improvement. My comparison is Tracy McGrady, great scorer but always the questions of whether he was a winner? (no). And how much did he actually make his team better?

McGrady was much better in his third year. Again, Wiggins is elite scorer, but he really fails in every other area. Hard for me to believe a guy scoring 23 ppg has only 16.8 PER.

McGrady's third year was 20.0. (Probably 24.9 is the same age, since he didn't go to college). Either way he had 6.3 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.1 spg, 1.9 bpg. All those stat is superior to Wiggins. He was also injured his second year. So i am not sure that makes it fair. Also Wall was injured throughout the first few years.

Alas, scoring the ball dose not make one great, ask Joe Johnson and Rudy Gay among others. AW d is booty. Advanced numbers dont lie.

DeMar DeRozan i think is also more dynamic than Wiggins.

Started at much lower level, i think, he was extremely raw but steady and impressive growth throughout the years. Some years not so much, but he is putting together and growing nicely.

I think wiggins needs to work with a super star to really understand what it takes. However, we all know KAT is a workaholic, so i am having hard time why he hasn't grown as much.

uh yeah they hating by not having Karl Towns as a All star this year. He would hold his own against anybody in the league 1 vs 1 at his position. Karl probably has a chip on his shoulder now though. WATCH OUT NEXT YEAR

part of it is because KAT wasn't really dominating like he is now. I think when he got snubbed, he completely took it heart. He stopped chucking threes, and started pounding inside. He got more physical.

However, part of the problem with All-star is popularity contest, and because GSW is a popular team they got absurd 4 players into all-star. Not deserving.

KAT is great on offense, but he's 70th out of 70 in defensive RPM among centers (the position where D is most important). RPM is noisy in small samples, but over a season? He does not fare well in other defensive measures, either: 0.2 DBPM (190th among all players), 2.7 DWS (45th among all players). RPM goes beyond box score stats, though, and because D is hard to measure, it's likely better for defense than box score based advanced stats. The T-Wolves played terrible defense this year despite Thibs. KAT has a ways to go on D, and Wiggins has a ways to go on everything that's not scoring.

Can't knock Wiggins defense without doing the same for KAT.

I love KAT, one of my favorite players at UK ever...but, his defense is atrocious and downright embarrassing. One of the worst in the entire NBA regardless of position.

KATs d is crap too but he can rebound, block shots and pass the ball. He is the bigman that the NBA is all about in 2017. AW has plenty to grow on before he is mentioned as an elite.

That's what she said.

Say what you want but 40/20 games speak for themselves. I'm sure a lot of those 20 rebounds were defensive without looking it up

As a timberwolves fan, thesevyoung guys need HELP. Besides KAT, Wiggins, Rubio, Lavine, and Dieng, and sometimes Shabazz, no other player would be getting minutes on a quality team. Offense will not be a problem going forward. Defense is the big concern.

Rubio
Wiggins
Sefolosha/Allen/Iggy/Roberson
Ibaka/Gibson/PJ Tucker/JayMychal Green
KAT

Dunn/Tyus
Lavine
?
Bjelica
Dieng

I would go after a good defensive wing and PF to play with Rubio, Wiggins and KAT. Lavine and Dieng come off the bench and you can also mix either one with the starting lineup. Also could use 1 or two more bench pieces.
